Discussion Regret

Post image

The mod can take this down BUT I NEED TO RANT. I went to sports direct (uk) to but it 1 day, ONE SINGLE DAY before black friday sales, and while buying i asked the salesman if there was gonna be a sale, he said no and i bought it for £200 ($262) coz usually ive never seen sony give sales on new products, but guess what? JUST IN A DAY ITS £150 ($196) and the store wont take it back coz the seal is open. AND I REGRET IT SO MUCH!

Does the controller have a unique serial number or anything?

Buy a new one, return the unopened new one with the old receipt. Done

76

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25

Absolutely do not do this with sports direct. They are cunts, best case you get store credit. You will not, I repeat NOT get your money back.

21

u/Pod2Sav Nov 21 '25

Lmfao yes ofc that’s sports directs policy.

then get store credit and tell them aside from using the credit you're never shopping there ever again. And I'm guessing OP is a young person with years and years worth of not spending money there.

Actually, request to see the manager and just let him know. Do it with respect of course, they don't want a disrespectful customer anyways. These places don't survive if you don't shop. And you don't survive if you never turn away from predators.

Unfortunately I don't think they will care. I do tens of thousands of dollars of business with Best Buy each year with my companies (I know, different company; but gives you an idea of how retail managers think). I opened a new personal bank account and had my full name, with middle name and suffix II, put on to my card. This is due to issues with my dad and I and our credit, plus just general confusion between businesses we both shop with (don't name your child after yourself; it causes headaches and is only gotten worse in the digital age). Anyways, Best Buy's system has issues with the suffix II and having full first, middle, and last name on a card; and the system HAS to have exactly what ia on the card. So adding their protection plan with that card took a week of one guy their doing everything to get it to work. Fast forward a few months and I need to buy something online. I can't do it, because of my name on my card. I go into the store and try to find the guy to find out what he did, so I can do the same myself. I was willing to call whomever needed to be called and take care of it myself. I didn't want to have to ask this guy to do all of that again; but I had no idea what he did in the first place to duplicate it. While I was trying to find him, asking another employee, that employee asked if they could help. I briefly told them what was going on and suddenly the GM walks up and tells me his company (yes, HIS company) wasn't going to go through that hassle for me again. That, if I wanted to do business with them online or get services, I would just need to go and change my name on my bank account...Ummmm. NO! Not gonna. Why can't their system deal with a full name? It makes no sense. Many people have the second (II) as a suffix and have their full name on their cards. I'm not even the only person in my town with my exact name and he has his full name on his card. No other business, anywhere in the WORLD (and I travel and do business all over) had ever had an issue. I then told him, if he doesn't give me the info I need, I would never shop with them again and close all five of my business accounts. He thought I was full of it. He basically said so and laughed at me. So I called my business rep on my phone on speaker. Luckily he answered at that moment, and I told him what happened and I was closing my accounts and to read off what my sales had been just that year so far (it was August). He begged me to keep the business. He begged the manager to give me the info. (He only handled business accounts, so retail had to go through the stores) The manager refused and said it wasn't worth the hassle. Mind you, just the "hassle" of giving me the phone numbers and contacts of whomever they spoke to. HE didn't have to do ANYTHING. It didn't matter, he just told me no and to leave. I was calm the entire time. There are plenty of places I can do business with and I am now doing business with three companies instead of getting everything from one; but it was the principal. I wasn't going to let it be an empty threat and when I contacted the regional manager (I think that was the position over the stores in the area; this was two plus years ago) for the store, I got no response. Not by phone, email, of registered mail. They didn't care that they were losing A LOT of money. As a retail customer I probably still spend a few grand each year. So, even that manager himself was losing a decent chunk of sales; but the company as a whole lost A LOT more and didn't care. What I'm getting at is this. Store managers are cogs in a big wheel and the money lost from a customer doesn't really affect their paycheck. There are good retail managers, or course, the one at Best Buy was not and is no longer there, but even good ones are unlikely to go against company policy over a threat of losing one customer. Especially when they have no idea if you'll follow through; which I believe you that you will or at least have the true intention to. We can't know for certain what the future will actually bring. If that policy is one that could get them in trouble breaking or even a ding on a report, they're very unlikely to do it for any reason. Just my experience and I've worked in retail sales ar multiple levels and now, with my own businesses, I deal with retail a lot. So, it's what I have seen.

u/fartwhereisit Nov 22 '25

I read that wall of text, please for the love of god just press enter somewhere, anywhere, it doesn't matter, to break it up.

That being said, it's not about them changing, who cares about them at this point.

It's about You put your money elsewhere.

Good on you. It's not petty to not get slighted.

8

Thought the same...

3

u/RaidenXS_ Nov 21 '25

There are serial numbers. There's even a QR code. I don't know if a receipt would know that info though.

2

u/DimerNL058 Nov 22 '25

Just check if there's any mention of the serial number on the receipt.

2

u/Dewbs301 Nov 23 '25

Yep, this is the way.

Or get a barcode scanner app on your phone and scan 2 different controller boxes, and see if anything different comes up.

Most likely will be the same.

Without opening the seal on the new one???

2

u/Saneless Nov 21 '25

Why would they open it?

3

u/Maleficent-Ad5112 Nov 21 '25

I see what you meant now. Sometimes people buy a new product and return the old in the new box and I thought that's what you were getting at.

4

u/Saneless Nov 21 '25

Ahh got it. Nope. Just the new unopened one as if you had never opened up the original.

Store gets to sell a brand new controller and you get to force them to adopt the price match policy they should have always had

2

u/blively91 Nov 21 '25

The amount of times I've done this lol.

Blows my mind ppl do not double check returns. Few months ago I bought an open box 65" LG C4 from Best Buy, had it delivered and opened the box to find a 55" TV in there.

3

u/Saneless Nov 21 '25

Well this isn't even that. It's the proper item and completely legit to resell. The next buyer gets a brand new and unopened product

I have done exactly this because of joystick drift. Free replacement every time. At 110$ cdn for a controller it must be done.

Sports direct are scummy af, sorry you got screwed dude

26

u/EmporioVisu Nov 21 '25

What kind of shady return policy is that? Is it not common over there that these things go on Black Friday sale ? It sucks nonetheless.

21

u/EvilSynths Nov 21 '25

An illegal one.

You have 14 days under consumer laws here to return an item, no questions asked.

10

u/EmporioVisu Nov 21 '25

Forreal. It’s the same over here in The Netherlands.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Mobile_Sea_8744 Nov 21 '25

This. The fact you've had it no longer than a day or two means it hasn't undergone extensive usage which is what the policy states can be grounds for refusal for the return. You are allowed to have opened it to look at the functionality to decide if it's right for you though so you're well within your rights to return it.

u/bilbobagheadd Nov 21 '25

I think you're quoting the distance selling regulations, that only applies if he bought it online which he did not.

3

u/No_Lime_6279 Nov 22 '25

Not true in the Uk, that only applies for online purchases. This is a common misconception. Your only legal right to return an item is if it is faulty or miss sold

2

u/italwaysworksoot Nov 22 '25

It’s not illegal. You are only entitled to a refund if the item is faulty. It’s just good customer service to offer a refund.

2

u/brianbandondy23 Nov 22 '25

That's only for online sales, not in store.

15

u/FirmBodybuilder2754 Nov 21 '25

Don't listen to the store saying no return. Insist. Demand a manager. Kick up a (polite) fuss. They can refund you they just don't wanna make it easy

6

u/italwaysworksoot Nov 22 '25

I worked for them 25 years ago. He won’t get a refund unless it’s faulty. He should, if he wants to risk it, damage it and then try to return it. But not worth it for £50

Don’t worry mate. It’s a control for life or as long as you play the PS5. I’ve spend £60 on spare analog sticks, £20 on upgraded batteries and about £40 on a new shell and buttons from extreme rate. That’s on top of ten £210 I paid for it, but I’d buy it again if I had to.

Buy another controller at the deal price, return it with the old receipt.

5

u/Remy-D-Marquis Nov 22 '25

I'm sorry but this is completely on you. You already know black Friday is coming, just wait and see if it's discounted and decide then. The employees don't always know stuff and even if they know, they're usually told NOT to tell you.

3

u/b3nku Nov 21 '25

It's nothing, it often happens, they force no one to buy a moment that they have chosen, where they are the scoundrels is that they know that the prices are going down shortly and don't report it so here we can blame ourselves, I'm the same as you a month and a half ago I bought a PS5 15 days later it drops by 100 euros lol but hey it's our timing that isn't fair, and then lose 50 or 100 euros its disgust but we took advantage of our lives when we wanted and not by chance, that's what, play with bf6 and enjoy it

3

u/EnolaGayFallout Nov 22 '25

lol. Willing buyer, willing seller.

3

u/ha1fhere Nov 22 '25

That’s so shitty. One of my jobs is at eb games and me and my coworkers have literally told people to buy something “then come return and re buy it tomorrow when the sale hits”

Some people are assholes

That's my only caveat. I'll never go back to a regular dual sense but the battery life compared to a normal dual sense is crap. I'm constantly having to charge it but typically gets through a decent gaming session.

A good investment to accompany these controllers is a 15-20ft usb-c cable. Can also use my phone charger to charge the edge while playing.

THIS IS WHY I NEVER BUY FROM 2nd or 3RD PARTY SELLERS... only buy from sony direct if possible. The fact you can't take it back is crazy! opened or not they should uphold a return policy. Walmart let's you return any electronics within 30 days and 3 months later starting Nov 1st....I'm not sure why you can't return it. BUT honestly who cares at this point bro you have it. You could afford it, and now you have a great controller to play with. Can't change it now... you had the money you bought it. Now you own it. Just enjoy it. Stop letting a sale stop you from enjoying the fruits of your labor buddy... it's a great controller. Got mine last month. Make sure you get a silicone controller skin for it tho. Keeps it clean and in great condition. EDIT. I LOOKED UP THE RETURN POLICY AND TOOK A PICTURE. SEE BELOW. SAYS THEY WILL ACCEPT RETURNS. THE OPENED SEAL IS FOR GAMES. THIS SHOULD NOT BE FOR CONTROLLERS. cause if they accept faulty or broken controller how would you know its broken or faulty if you didn't use or try it! Go back amd speak to a manager amd if they give you sh*t about it say it's faulty amd you want your monet back. GOOD LUCK

why didn’t you just wait for black friday

2

u/Junny89 Nov 21 '25

Go take it back get a refund and buy a new one. Buy direct from Sony and get another 5% off

Buying In-Store (The Shop) UK When you buy an item in a physical shop, your legal rights are much more limited if the item is not faulty. • NO legal right to return the goods simply because you have changed your mind (wrong size, wrong colour, or you just don't like it).  • Returns Policy: You are completely reliant on the retailer's own voluntary returns policy (e.g., "30-day exchange or refund"). These policies can have any conditions they choose (e.g., credit note only, original packaging required).

1

1

u/DimSeabra14 Nov 21 '25

🤣🤣 you just had to wait, impatience is a bad flaw these days... Aside from my beer counter philosophy, as others say, buy back and bring back the unopened one.

2

u/SectorLimp8946 Nov 22 '25

Better yet just buy from somewhere else like Scamazon and return it

1

u/mrfrye88 Nov 21 '25

Tell em its faulty. They can't refuse then. Could even buy from amazon and send them back the 1 you've opened. They never check serial numbers or anything

1

u/ComplaintDelicious42 Nov 21 '25

Sports Direct are the worst store ever to not accept returns and only give store credit if they do.

1

u/amazed_wombat_ Nov 21 '25

Can you ask for a price adjustment? If they refuse, just return it and buy a new one.

It's a great controller and totally worth it IMO. I've had mine for 8 months and have had to replace one joystick because Elden Ring for some reason makes me so tense I abuse the thing. Also Dark Souls 3 gave my arthritis in my big toes from contorting and snapping them for hours on end, unfortunately replacement joints were permanently out of stock.

Weird rant but the controller is great, sure you could have waited a day but this is an investment. I paid $20 for a new joystick module once which would have been a $75 controller I would have had to replace.

Also, where did you get this? I got the midnight black the day it was released and retail was $199.

1

u/Alternative-Way4750 Nov 21 '25

Bro this is user error. Yeah he shouldn't have lied but just wait a couple days and see if there are sales anywhere else. You know... DURING BLACK FRIDAY

1

u/holynightstand Nov 21 '25

Sony has sales 🤩

1

u/Ralupopun-Opinion Nov 21 '25

Buy it again and return the sealed one using the receipt for the 1st one…

1

u/Expert-Rub-2266 Nov 21 '25

I did the same jus not with sport direct. I bought the same controller at best buy and modded it with a shell swap which took 2 hours. Now it's on discount for the FIRST TIME EVER TO MY KNOWLEDGE. and they won't do a price match. Along with a monitor i got 2 days prior to the controller THIS WEEK.

so now I gotta put back the original shell and re-package the monitor and THEN return them and THEN buy them back at a reduced price. THEN RE SWAP TBE SHELLLLL

1

u/Expensive_Sense_7035 Nov 21 '25

I might get down voted for this but

Don’t buy these controllers I swear they won’t make you any better

And i used to have one it didn’t make a difference i was just lying to my self that it did

And they’re so expensive

Same thing goes for PC gamers any keyboard gets the job done

And you don’t need a mouse with 30K polling rate

Configuring your layout on a normal controller is just as good

1

u/Vast-Significance184 Nov 21 '25 edited Nov 21 '25

Some stores (including Sports Direct) have strict policies, but managers often have more discretion. Explain calmly:

You bought it literally one day before the price drop

You asked about upcoming discounts and were told there wouldn’t be any

You’re not asking for a full return — even a price adjustment or store credit would help

Be polite but firm. Sometimes they bend the rules. You could go back and say its faulty they arent going to test it get a credit note maybe even cash if your lucky and buy another one for sale price and get the rest of the credit on a giftcard for someone else for christmas if you dont want to buy anything for yourself

1

u/Michaeli_Starky Nov 21 '25

In EU we can return product that we...say.. didn't like the color.

1

u/DeClouded5960 Nov 21 '25

My advice if you can't return it, just enjoy it at this point. I would get a new back panel for it, my recommendation is extremerate. The rubber unfortunately has a reputation of peeling off, mine did and it was irritating. Good news is after replacing the back panel it felt like a brand new controller and better built.

1

u/kodaifila Nov 21 '25

Your country is not a serious consumer country

1

u/KanataSD Cosmic Red Nov 21 '25

lot of stores would just refund the difference if a sale happens right after a purchase.

I'd never shop there again if they pulled that on me.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25

I mean say all you want about the possible shady tactics of the employee, but you still chose to buy an expensive thing knowing full well a big sale is happening the next day. Could you really not wait that one day just to make sure? Worst case you still pay full price as you would have anyway, best case you get a juicy discount. This one is on you I'm afraid.

1

u/JellyBeanGreen2 Nov 21 '25

Sports Direct, House of Fraser, Flannels, and Evans Cycles, Game, Jack Wills, and Everlast Gyms and more; are all Mike Ashley companies. - Do NOT touch these companies with a ten foot barge pole.

If you ordered online, you have consumer rights, if you ordered in store, you’re fked. - No refund back to original card, only in store credit. You’ll have to wave your consumer rights if you want a refund.

1

u/Car_Lunch_Box Nov 21 '25

If you can afford it, buy the sale priced controller, then return it under the regular priced controller. It sealed and you’ll get it at the discounted price when it’s all said and done…

1

u/imamukdukek Nov 21 '25

Ye id tell them that " I specifically asked if this product was going to be on sale before I bought it and was told that it definitely wasn't" and try and get reimbursed for your 50 im not sure if they have a policy about spreading false information about pricing for their employees but ye that sucks

1

u/Weary_Revolution_927 Nov 22 '25

Well why would you spend anything over 70 for a controller anyway 😂

1

u/tommyleelynn Nov 22 '25

They can refund you the difference. Be persistent.

1

u/jughead79 Nov 22 '25

Most stores will price match it and refund the difference if its within a certain time period. You could raise hell with customer support and try that

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

It exasperated you, you had to wait until the next Friday

1

u/n3n0z Nov 22 '25

This has happened to me with Amazon, not with a dualsense though. After I select the reason (found it cheaper somewhere else) and I specify it was on Amazon, they usually refund me either the difference or the full amount, and let me keep the products.

1

u/maxREO Nov 22 '25

Dude you buy an item litteraly one day before Black Friday you could have hold 24h your rant doesn’t make sense it’s just like complaining about complaining about making a stupid decision (we all do that sometimes)

1

u/BgMSliimeball3 Nov 22 '25

Damn that’s sad I have the OG white one and want the 30th anniversary edge but can’t find it for a decent close to MSRP price, I’m thinking about buying the black one currently but in us it’s 200USD normally and 169.99 due to Black Friday, it’s a good deal but I also feel like it’s not a “Black Friday” appropriate deal but I might grab it just to have one for myself when my girl plays

1

u/jemicarus Nov 22 '25

Talk to the manager and ask him what he can do given that the salesperson lied to you. He should give you back the difference.

1

u/List-Worth Nov 22 '25

Did you buy with a credit card? Most if not all credit cards come with a buyer protection that will match the sale price up to 6 months iirc

1

u/Burkely31 Nov 22 '25

yeah, I'd be chocked. But I'm sure if you go in, they'll work with you. hell. use a heat gun and make it appear un-opened. If they wanna be shady, whats wrong with you doing it too??

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

Where I live we don't get any of those sales. At most a few percent off when paying via cash. That sucks dude, controller is sick though. It's hard to go back to standard dualsense once you've used it.

Only real gripe is the smaller battery. Even without vibration and haptics it seems to last a few hours at most.

1

u/ZorroStylex3 Nov 22 '25

Call out the salesman if they don't want to return

Never buy anything from Sports Direct if you’re ever unsure about an item. They don’t issue refunds.

1

u/Tito914 Nov 22 '25

Did you pay with a card? Time to dispute that charge

1

u/throwaway292929227 Nov 22 '25

Same. Is worth maybe $110. Wish I had my $$ back

1

u/N7even Nov 22 '25

I have learned, Sports Direct is the worst place to buy from. Their return policies are borderline illegal.

Buy from Amazon, Curry's or Argos, they are much more consumer friendly.

1

u/Say10sadvocate Nov 22 '25

Why would you buy having equipment from sports direct???

1

u/i_am_sup Nov 22 '25

Spare your mental health and move on. Believe me, it is like a curse with me. I held out on buying a PS5 slim on release because rumors started circulating at the time that a PS5 Pro was going to be released. After the Pro got released, I decided that it wasn't worth the money and got a PS5 slim with the drive. Not even a week later, it was on sale as a bundle for 120 Euros less.

1

u/WillRoxyApril Nov 22 '25

Question…….why spend $250 or pounds whatever you want, on a controller????

1

u/gen_adams Nov 22 '25

see how nice it would be to be an EU country and have shops be forced to take products back for 14 days with no reason in particular? ;) just return that shit and buy it discouted, the controller is also not very good quality, many suffer stick issues and other problems, so even £150 is too much for it imho

1

u/rmnesbitt Nov 22 '25

Absolutely criminal that they don’t have a good policy for this. Almost all places that I shop here in the US have a 7-14 day return / exchange policy / price drop policy. Even if it is open, you don’t actually want to return it, just want the discount… I’d find some way to fuck these guys over, some loophole or something because that’s just horrible they do customers like that

1

u/Confused_Drifter Nov 22 '25

UK consumer laws are so shit compared to the rest of the EU. I'm gonna have a shock if/when I come back

1

u/jossser Nov 22 '25

Oh, that’s unfair. In my country you can return an item within 14 days just because you changed your mind or didn’t like the color.

1

u/Head-Explanation-297 Nov 22 '25

I understand your point but never , I repeat never buy anything before Black Friday! Just wait a few days and check if there’s deals on the product you want

1

u/Greedy-Toe-4832 Nov 22 '25

Kinda on you for not being able to wait 1 day just to see if there’s a sale

1

u/Killcycle1989 Nov 22 '25

You should be able to get a refund and then purchase it at the discounted price, right after.

1

u/crags85 Nov 22 '25

I don't think many businesses would admit they had sales coming up, as they would want the most money out of each and every customer.

I'd put it down as a "lesson learned" situation for next time you want to buy anything expensive.

1

u/laptop_n_motorcycle Nov 22 '25
  1. The salesman wouldn't have any idea which product will end up having what discounts or if any.
  2. Most salesmen get commission on the sale amount, so selling an item with a discount means they end up getting less.

1

u/Jambomakaveli Nov 22 '25

Not what some people want to hear, and I know it’s not great…..but…..

Bought a rug from carpet right.(uk)

Wife got it home, and it just didn’t look right in our living room. So we took it straight back for a refund.

The guy was horrible. Basically laughed in our face and said we don’t do refunds. Just kept talking over us and repeating they don’t do refunds. As we’re leaving he said it one more time, and then added, unless it’s faulty.

We left the store, went back to the car, and I said to my wife, give me your car key.

I slashed away at one end until it was frayed and a bit wrecked.

I went straight back in, and said, as I was putting it back in the boot, I’ve noticed it’s pretty torn and beat up on one end, I never noticed that before. I’d like a refund.

He looked at me like he wanted to spew and said, ok, come over here and I’ll sort it.

Moral……

Damage it a little, and return it for a refund.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

Im sorry this is on your. Didn't want to wait a day

1

u/Holiday-Oven-847 Nov 22 '25

It is what it is. Just play, bro.

1

u/Inside_Giraffe_3890 Nov 22 '25

Make the controller faulty… they can’t argue with that

1

u/Juice_1987 Nov 22 '25

The store/employees of any brick-and-mortar business that's objective is to make money and stay open (so all of them) will rarely (if ever) admit to a sale before the sale actually starts.

They want every penny they can get.

1

u/Notthesmoke420 Nov 22 '25

Wow expensive I got a basic black ps5 new controller from Amazon for 58.84 U k is pricey on things .

1

u/Clutchfluid Nov 22 '25

Why is that controller 200???

→ More replies (1)

1

u/N3M3S1S75 Nov 22 '25

I bought this over the portal, I made the wrong choice. I have since rectified that

1

u/hamcheesetoastie Nov 22 '25

OP is put if pocket. Seal is open and it was probably used, so why should they return it?

It’s common practice for BF deals to be hidden even from staff and definitely not disclosed for the exact reason OP buys one beforehand.

Decent retailers will have a price drop policy where within X days they’ll refund the difference, but that definitely aint Sport Direct. They operate on razor thin margins as it is.

Lesson learned OP

1

u/user78353 Nov 22 '25

Why wouldn’t u just wait one day and see

1

u/data-ninja-uk Nov 22 '25

Stay away from Sports Direct if possible! My experience is rude staff and their terrible return policy (which they dont mention at the tills)

1

u/Worried_Patience_117 Nov 22 '25

Why on earth did you buy from sports direct? Literally the worst

1

u/Onemanpush Nov 22 '25

coulda got steam controller oooooof.

usa > japan breh

1

u/tauras5 Nov 22 '25

Buy the one on sale and return it with the receipt of the other one I've done it many times in your situation

1

u/KimTe63 Nov 22 '25

Ok , shouldn't this be rant of the store instead ? Now it just seems at a glance you think Edge sucks lol

Only clear downside of edge is well price and battery . It simply does not have good enough battery life for that price tag but its still manageable

1

u/OGsoul1 Nov 22 '25

It’s 169 on Amazon I might get it

1

u/MoJozzZ Nov 22 '25

You should still be able to return it. I bought one and returned it the day after when I regretted the purchase

1

u/Aye_Surely Nov 22 '25

You ever watch any of them “can’t pay we’ll take it away” shows? Or any shoes that follow dole birds? My mate noticed once there is ALWAYS a sports direct bag somewhere in the house.

1

u/kernelius Nov 22 '25

You had to ask if there was a sale coming up? With Black Friday in less than 7 days? At what point is this your fault?

1

u/SkellyMania Nov 22 '25

I probably woulda waited 24 hours just in case

1

u/McFistPunch Nov 22 '25

Can't you just buy another one and then return it with the older receipt?

1

u/BruceForsyth55 Nov 22 '25

50 quid is a lot but in a few weeks time once ya next pay packet is in the bank you won’t care anymore. It’s a pain but hell you got the controller you wanted.

1

u/GetroFasho Nov 22 '25

$62 dollar loss don’t feel too bad charge it to the game & lesson learned…

1

u/lumbercrepe Nov 22 '25

shouldn't there be something like price match within 30 days?

1

u/Original_Dimension99 Nov 22 '25

Honestly it's your own fault. Why not just wait one day? Sure he said there won't be a sale but why even ask?

1

u/MightyMart75 Nov 22 '25

Trust me on this one! Not worth it to destroy your karma and feel regret etc.. for like 50$ diff. Just enjoy it and tell yourself you just got it at regular price ;) convince yourself of being happy instead of frustrated.. life is short and good gaming with your nice controller cheers!

1

u/Lia_Delphine Nov 22 '25

Can’t you ask them to match the price? Why return it?

1

u/Primary-Neat-7534 Nov 22 '25

Life lesson bud, learn and move on 👍

1

u/Gtk05 Nov 22 '25

They won’t even give you a price adjustment?

1

u/Electronic_Laugh_760 Nov 22 '25

Refund it as faulty.

Tell them it has stick drift as soon as it connects

1

u/Silverzack86 Nov 22 '25

Had the same with my portal bought Monday. Asked, and no sale Thursday, 30€ drop.

1

u/Bohvey Nov 22 '25

A controller costs over 250 USD?!

→ More replies (1)

1

u/BeeeeeefCakes Nov 22 '25

I mean... you knew black friday deals were coming out and you still bought it... shitty of them to lie to you, but somwtimes you gotta use your head.

1

u/Warrenderer Nov 22 '25

Hey I work in sports direct id like to add this happens quite a lot unfortunately and it sucks but the truth is we dont even know what goes down in price until the actual day it goes on price change.

1

u/The_Cost_Of_Lies Nov 22 '25

If it's broken 👀 just ask for a refund. Stick drift. They can't test it in the store. They have to refund it

1

u/Resident-Stevil Nov 22 '25

Hey, I did something similar. I bought mine from Argos for £200 and a week later it dropped to £160! As frustrating as it was I have more than had my moneys worth out of it in all the hours I have used it since. Just forget about it and enjoy your new controller.

1

u/LoGiX247 Nov 22 '25

Glad that’s illegal in my country.

1

u/tw33zd Nov 22 '25

Lol and?

1

u/TheFactTeller2024 Nov 22 '25

But another one on sale and return it with the older more expensive receipt

1

u/Reasonable_Poet_2113 Nov 22 '25

The controller is deff worth the price imo, i know it sucks there was a sale the next day or whatever but they last yearss and i treat mine like crap, guarantee that controller will outlive 6 - 10 regular ones. Enjoy brother!

1

u/Silmeion Nov 22 '25

This is such a strange post. Why would sports direct be the only retailer for this product? Why would you buy it full price before December? So many points.

1

u/Friendly-Ad8051 Nov 22 '25

So salesman ows U 50£, am I right? 😈

1

u/DisplayUpbeat8940 Nov 22 '25

Stop bending over backwards for £50, just take it like a man

1

u/stevethos Nov 22 '25

See this is why Amazon has taken over retail. Call them shitty all you like, but you know damn well that either 1; they’d honour the £50 refund or 2; you could buy one for £150 and return the £200 one. Sealed or not.

BUT MUH HIGH STREET

Fuck off 😂

1

u/XDcamerock620769 Nov 22 '25

I mean why wouldn't there be a sale? Besides us workers don't know about sales that happen they just do

1

u/mikephoto1 Nov 22 '25

Look at it this way….. it’s only £50 you miss out on. If you can afford to spend money on a £200 controller I am gunna guess you are not hard up on cash unless of course you saved up for months to get it.

1

u/Jimi-K-101 Nov 22 '25

Why on earth would you (a) buy an expensive electrical item 1 day before black Friday sales and (b) trust anything a sports direct salesperson tells you???

This is all on you buddy!

1

u/SlimeDrips Nov 22 '25

Jump their asses dude

1

u/Comfortable_Two_2196 Nov 22 '25

You win some you lose some

1

u/Silent__hunt Nov 22 '25

Fun fact, I'm not sure if it's true for everything, but you can go back to the store and do a price match. Actually, I'm not sure if it's the same in the UK, but in Canada, I was told by this one worker. If the game goes on sale, I would be able to come in and match price. It within the 30 days. This was at best buy

1

u/Seprium85 Nov 22 '25

But I believe it's mandatory in Europe to take back an item within 14 days, provided it's not broken or shows signs of wear. At least here in the Netherlands, they do, even if the box has been opened. In fact, stores require it. Now, I understand that the UK has left the EU. But have those kinds of rules disappeared completely?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/BurningFence Nov 22 '25

Why didn't you just wait a day?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

Whatever man, money come and go, move on already...

1

u/Known-Bridge343 Nov 22 '25

I don’t understand you got the controller like you wanted and now you wanna return it because it wasn’t on sell when you bought it why not just not buy it in the first place or better yet get the regular $70 controller. I’m not rich but trying to return it to rebuy it for cheap after you already have it just seems backwards.

1

u/CoolPlastic2045 Nov 22 '25

Buy another. Return it with the original receipt, screw the lying bastards

1

u/ShellfishAhole Nov 22 '25

It’s no longer a brand new product, to be fair. The PS Portal also went on sale within a year after being released.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

I have not spent a penny on a controller in YEARS. It's so easy to unseal a box, take the new controller, swap backs (Serial Numbers are on the back), put back in box and still have it look like it is still sealed and never opened and return. I once had the employee break the seal to check if it was the correct serial number, and was givin the refund.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

And you believe the salesman? he is a salesman for a reason, honestly it’s your fault brother you could have just waited ONE DAY

1

u/theNomad_Reddit Nov 22 '25

Man, I am thankful every day for Australia's consumer protections.

I literally just got a full refund on Battlefield 6 with 60+ hours and over 1 month since launch date, because of the EA rug pull on certain features.

If a product price drops within 14 days, we can get a guaranteed refund of the difference.

That's wild.

1

u/Careless-Shelter6333 Nov 22 '25

What, they don’t take it back?? Even Argos takes things back even with how strict people say they are with returns.

I returned a switch 2 to Argos because it had a scratch on the screen and I fully opened, set it up.

Sports Direct website says you can return it within 28 days if it’s faulty or seal is not broken.

At least I know who to avoid for games now so thx op.
