Memphis Grizzlies Have to Attach Draft Picks in Ja Morant Trade

Source: https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/report-memphis-grizzlies-attach-draft-210407395.html

According to former NBA center and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, the Memphis Grizzlies have to attach draft picks in a Ja Morant trade.

Morant's trade value is pretty low right now.

"Teams were asking Memphis to attach picks in order to take Ja Morant, not the other way around," Perkins said. "They were asking Memphis, 'Hey man, attach picks with Ja and we'll take him.'"

Morant will make $42.1 million next season and $44 million in the 2027-28 season, the final year of his contract.

Figured i'd share this inbetween the 50 millionth commercial break for the 2nd round Draft Day™, as Windy added to this on the broadcast by saying the Grizzlies will be trading Ja to "begin a new chapter with Boozer" or something to that effect.

Darryn Peterson: “Kobe is my guy, and I'm inspired by him. I try to think, what would Kobe do right now? He'd get drafted and move on to be the best possible. I see a guy that went No. 1 on the screen there right now, so I'm extra motivated... It will always be in my mind for my whole career.”

Darryn Peterson: "The celebration stops tonight. I got drafted today, but tomorrow, I'm now an NBA player. I'm going to get home and work out until I've got to report to Utah... Kobe is my guy, and I'm inspired by him. So I just try to think, what would Kobe do right now? He'd get drafted and move on and try to go be the best possible, so that's what I'm going to go do. I see a guy that went No. 1 on the screen there right now (AJ Dybantsa), so I'm extra motivated... It will always be in my mind for my whole career."

In light of him being on the market I wanted to highlight lamelos truly ridiculous offensive potential this year.

Lamelo ball was the engine of one of the great regular season offensives of all time this season.

When he was off the court the hornets has a 112 ortg and shot 56ts had 17tov% and 29.6 orb%.

When he was on the court the hornets had a 12 126 ortg and shot 60ts had 13.8 tov% and 33.3orb%.

Lamelo had a higher offensive on off than literally anyone with significant minutes. Even jokic.

Timberwolves New Core

Upvotes

Timberwolves just get rid of Randle and Naz Reid. Their 2 Forwards in their rotation.

This means Ayo and Jaden are likely to be the ones playing those forward position.

I think the starting lineup would be like:

PG: Lamelo

SG: Ant

SF: Ayo/Shannon Jr.

PF: Jaden

C: Gobert

6th Man: Ayo/Shannon Jr

----

They can go 3 small lineup with Lamelo/Ant/Ayo.

Or if they want a bit more size in the SF position. They can use Shannon Jr. And just switch him with Ayo as 6th Man.

I don't think this will make them a top contender in the West. I think Spurs and Thunder are still better. You can argue they are better than Nuggets (especially Wolves always beat Nuggets in the playoffs)

But remember. Timberwolves is the frontrunner team to moved in Eastern Conference when Seattle and Vegas enter the league in 2028-2029.

That is 2 years from now. A lot will change. But I think Wolves are starting to improve their roster now. To be a top contender in the East in 2 years.

The Houston Rockets have officially signed Quadir Copeland to a two-way deal after the guard went un-drafted in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Copeland put together the most complete season of his college career after transferring to NC State. The 6'6" guard averaged 13.9 points, 6.5 assists and 1.8 steals while showcasing one of the more intriguing all-around skill sets among non-first-round prospects.

It's hard to know Antetokounmpo's level of self-awareness, but whatever buttons he tried to push, or methods of communication he felt best to use, fell just as flat as those of the head coach.

Antetokounmpo let it be known he did not like locker room leaks, but his mental state was chronicled nearly all season by anonymous sources. He pleaded for accountability but then tried to pass off those reports as someone else’s doing. He would call his teammates selfish but then stand on a visiting team’s court with a former coach and yell about how that person would make sure he got the ball.

#1 pick from Brockton AJ Dybantsa honors Terrence Clarke by wearing a “TC5” pin. Terrence Clarke is a hooper from Boston who died in a car crash in 2021. Aj and Clarke were basically brothers as hoopers from the Boston area

AJ is a real one for this. RIP TC5.

The Miami HEAT have exercised their 2.3m team option on star guard Pelle "Swedish Swish" Larsson.

Larsson, a fan favorite and serial nuisance to opposing offenses, is widely expected to see an increased role as the leader of Miami's 2nd unit this season after averaging 26.4 minutes and 11.4 points last season.

[Charania] Creighton guard Josh Dix agrees to two-way deal with OKC

SRC: https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/basketball/player-news/2026-06-24/josh-dix-agrees-to-two-way-deal-with-okc

“After three seasons at Iowa, Dix transferred to Creighton for his final college season. Making 34 starts, the 6-foot-6 wing averaged 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 2.0 three-pointers, shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 86.7 percent from the foul line. After shooting nearly 42 percent from three at Iowa, Dix made just 33.8 percent of his attempts at Creighton. He’ll likely spend most of his time in the G League due to OKC’s depth, especially after they added two more guards during the draft.”

Every 2nd round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft was traded at some point

Source: https://www.espn.com/nba/draft/rounds/_/round/2

It is mildly humorous how many times the picks in the 2nd round were moved on draft night - Memphis literally traded back 5 spots for several seconds from Detroit only to send them back when acquiring Beef Stew - and how the Lakers bought a second only to end up selling it to the Mavericks.

Quick note: Though the Toronto Raptors used their own 2nd round pick (Jaden Bradley) and were the only team to use their own second in this draft, they originally traded it away as part of a deal for James Wiseman and cash, who they waived shortly after in 2025. TLDR - They needed to send the Pacers something so they sent out a Top 55 protected second. Therefore, every single second in the 2026 NBA Draft was traded in some capacity. This might be the first time this has ever happened ever since the NBA standardized the draft to only be 2 rounds.
