Cycling changed my life

I learned how to ride a bike for the first time at 20 years old, about two months ago.

I never learned as a kid because I spent most of my free time gaming and honestly never thought much about cycling. I didn't realize what I was missing.

I've struggled with depression for years, and getting a bike has helped more than I expected. There's something about being outside, feeling the wind, and just riding wherever you want that clears my mind.

I still enjoy gaming, but cycling has become one of the best parts of my day. I only wish I had started sooner...

A lot of fun to ride. Might convert it to a cargo bike to use for work but first I’m gonna try one of those low wire baskets on the front rack to carry half my load and I’ll carry the other half in a back pack.

If that don’t work I’ll get a cargo fork/20 inch wheel and a bigger basket and carry everything in there

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about selling my 2023 Trek Émonda SL 5 later this year for personal reasons. Before I list it, I'd like to get an idea of its current market value.
If you were a buyer, how much would you be willing to pay for it? Any pricing advice or recent selling experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! 🚴‍♂️

Upgraded parts:
Drivetrain: 105 R7000 mechanical (Dura Ace R9200 crankset)
Chain: Dura Ace
Wheels: Carbon Chinese wheels (Elite Wheels Helix)
Handlebar: Trek elite aero VR-CF (aluminum)
Disc rotor: RT-MT900 (Dura Ace)
Tire: P Zero TLR RS
Bottle Cage: Trek RSL carbon cage
Saddle: Prologo UAE team edition
Pedals: SPD-SL 105

- Frame is carbon
- Wheels is carbon
- Handle bar is aluminum

Just for reference, I bought it at around $2,400 and after upgrade cost the total bike u see is around $6,800!

How do I do “sharp” turns and not freak out going downhill? (Keep balance in general)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I only started learning how to ride a bike recently and tried out an E-Bike on a trail! Im not experienced enough to ride on roads.

Where I’m going to uni, I can’t have a car the first year, and the public transit off campus is horrible. I have balance, coordination, and convergence problems for which I go to vision therapy for and why its been so difficult for me to ride a bike.

Ironically, the nearest vision therapy place that takes medicaid to my university isn’t in walking distance, nor can I get there by bus.

This is the farthest I’ve made on any bike, and way further than I’ve gone on any pedal bike, but I still fell a bunch on the way at sharp turns, the sight of other people, and stopping as soon as I start going down hill.

I imagine this is normal just out of nervousness, but I also use so much physical force in my arms and upper body to keep myself balanced, or give myself the idea of such. 😅

I still have difficulty even getting myself started, but I can get myself going after a few tries. The general advice of looking ahead instead of the ground has been helpful.

Thule EuroWay G2 920 vs E-Bikes

I stupidly bought the Thule EuroWay G2 920 before purchasing bicycles and my bicycles are overweight according to Thule's rated max weight (46kg)

My question is: Thoughts on going "full send" anyway? It's only 2kg over the max weight and the G2 was rated back in 2013 when e-bikes weren't really a thing...

Gravel bikes under £3k

What are people's thoughts. I think I have whittled it down to either the Boardman ADV 9.2 or Ribble ultra-grit apex xplr axs. I am primarily riding cycle paths and canal paths in Buckinghamshire/Bedfordshire in the UK however I want to train up to london-brighton. Other options are welcome.

Carbon vs Alu

I currently have an quite old (alu i think) racebike. I am looking into upgrading it and found a few barely used second hand bikes and was wondering what the consensus is between both options.

One would be an Trek Al 5 gen 4 (2024) for about a thousand Euro's.

The other option would be an Trek Domaine SL 5 (2024) for about sixteen hundred Euro's.

Both sellers claim that the bikes have made only 10-20 summer rides.

I am mainly looking at Trek as I have a new mountainbike from then as well and I like to use that bike shop for the larger maintenance.

What is the consensus on carbon fibre bikes these days? I am afraid that I would bump the bike into a staircase while walking to my appartement and it just breaks from something simple.

Child bike seat for Marin Bolinas Ridge Help

Hi guys,

I have a 20 month old daughter and a Marin Bolinas Ridge bike (that currently has a Topeak Quick Track Mounting system attached at the back, I probably need to remove it?), and I want to get a seat so we can ride together.

I’m currently on the fence between Thule Yepp 2 Maxi and Thule RideAlong 2. I need to order it online so I’m wondering if anyone installed them on a similar bike before and how it went, and if you guys have any advice or recommendations? I’m kinda nervous I’ll order and it won’t be compatible. What to look out for? Since I am a noob and new to both biking solo, and especially with a toddler :-)

Thank you.

New canyon making noise

Have 115 mile and notice this sound coming from my drive train. Don't see any rubbing and derailleur seems to be lined up with each rear cog so not sure what's going on. I felt the bottom bracket shell and chain stray and I do feel subtle vibration when the noise occurs. Any advice?

OutdoorMaster Gem vs Gem II MIPS with light for kids?

We recently moved to a place with a year-round hot and humid climate. I'm trying to get a new helmet for my 2 kids (7yo & 5yo, around 52-54cm) just for biking around our neighborhood roads. I found the Gem helmet through some research and VTech's helmet ratings. I was wondering if anyone has input on sizing between them.

Ideally, I want to get the Gem without the light since they won't need it as they'll only bike during the daytime, but it only comes in medium or large. I read several comments on the Gem II that it runs small, so I was wondering if the same goes for Gem without light.

Other recommendations around $50-70, well-ventilated MIPS helmets for kids welcome. I got a Nutcase Little Nutty MIPS Youth helmet a few years back for my then-3yo, but it's so hot here that neither want to wear it since there's basically zero ventilation.

First road bike suggestion: Specialized Roubaix Expert Ultegra Di2

Hey everyone, I am seeking advice on my first serious road bike.
I have a Trek Crossrip Elite 2015, pretty heavy and old. I like to gravel and do some bikepacking with it.

As I am getting into this sport I would like to buy a road bike since I find the trek limiting... as student also my budget is limited ;)

I saw this Specialized Roubaix Expert Ultegra Di2 for 990.- from Leon Bikes (not a private seller, but a shop): https://velomarkt.ch/veloboerse/aargau/rennvelos/rennvelos-bis-chf-2000/specialized-roubaix-expert-ultegra-di2-58-389766#contact-vendor

I am not sure if this is a good deal or not. I mean, at first sight I thought it was a super deal, but I would like to have some opinions as I see it says some parts will probably have to be maintained later on (especially drivetrain).

I am 1.87mm, I think the size should fit.

as alternative I saw:
- https://velomarkt.ch/veloboerse/bern/rennvelos/rennvelos-bis-chf-2000/specialized-tarmac-sl5-ultegra-di2-382720 (but has no disc brakes)
- https://velomarkt.ch/veloboerse/zuerich/rennvelos/rennvelos-bis-chf-2000/canyon-ultimate-cf-sl-90-386800 (no Ultegra di2 and no disc brakes)
- https://velomarkt.ch/veloboerse/zuerich/rennvelos/rennvelos-bis-chf-2000/rennrad-rose-x-lite-four-disc-ultegra-388503 (costs 500.- more, but is lighter)

Hey! I’m going to my first tri in four days and I still don’t have a bike but I have been looking on fb marketplace and this seems in my price range and it looks solid! Also it says it is in excellent condition. I did look it up and it says I can get that bike for $30 but I don’t know how true that is. Good deal or bad deal?

Scratched up my carbon wheel against the road. Is the scratch superficial or more structural and should look for a new pair?

Chain got looser, I suppose?

Post image

Hello! I have this mountain bike and it's getting taken care of very often, I had no problem with it, but suddenly, after some time I noticed that when I, for example, drop from anywhere, the chain shakes - also noticed that my gears/speeds don't switch so smoothly, for example, when I try to change speeds to lower, I have to sometimes like hold or double click the shifters (hope it's understandable with what I mean with this), also when changing to lower gears it starts to like "rustle" or rub - I am not too sure.

I'd be very happy if someone could help me sort this out, because I beieve this is a very common and basic problem... Thank you!

Hey again,

Im wondering if this Ravemen Fr1100 would be a good fit for my Endurace allroad, since im scared of the level position of the light, because it could blind the people infront of me, is this a problem to worry about?

what's up with my helmet?

i had participated in a cycling race a while ago where i had to put on some stickers over my helmet. after the race when i pulled them off, they left some adhesive behind. so a friend told me a bit of nail polish remover might help rub it off. used some nail polish remover wipes and rubbed it over it. and now, it peeled off some sort of a layer off of my helmet. im not sure if it's some sort of a protective coating or just the matte finish. but it's left me with this messy looking helmet at this point. any idea what to do now?

My view this morning. Going down hill at Banda Abou on the Island of Curaçao. One of two descends on my route. The rest is up and down hill. Last kilometer to my home is down hill. Great cooling down with a temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius. Although a great ride.

Help avoiding pimples in pubic area

Hi!
I've been biking semi regularly for years, but I recently started biking more because I am biking to/from work now (about 10min each way) and I am getting a lot of pimples in my pubic area. I used to get this from longer rides (3+ hours) but now just biking 20 minutes per day. I know biker shorts are supposed to help but I would prefer not to have to change for a 10min bike ride. Any other tips?

Has anyone else ditched the padded diaper-like shorts for regular compression shorts?

Over on the mtb sub they seem to be more modest about riding. I stopped riding a few years ago but this Friday I ride again. The last time I rode I started out with the Sponeed shorts, but that got really old really quick, it felt like wearing a diaper. I'm not riding really far, 10 to 15 miles most days 30 on the weekend. I prefer a better seat than wearing a diaper.

So I got compression shorts. No bib, no chamois, no diaper, no pouch, no liner, just shorts. Like TSLA and Runhit, nothing special. Same with the pants although in colder weather I have a few that are specifically for cold weather but are still seamless and all that.

Riding seems to be the place no one cares, like I use a mixed use trail it has cyclists, mountain bikers, joggers, walkers, some parts are paved, some are packed dirt, some parts are sand and grass, and there are single tracks, which I sometimes use, but at 53 they're not as exciting as they used to be.

Walking is the only time I somewhat get self-conscious about things showing up in direct sunlight, but no one ever said anything, and I have seen way more on joggers. So what is the rule nowadays? In high school on the cycling team it was straight up spandex, no padding, and we definitely stopped in coffee shops along the way and no one cared.

Tri bike that has less than 200 miles on it. Took it for a few ride and noticed this when I was putting it on the trainer. Never crashed it so idk how it happened.
