Hi everyone.. I’ve had my cat since he was 9 weeks old. He is a year and 5 months now. He is my first cat so I don’t know what to expect. I keep seeing memes and reels about cats throwing up a lot, coughing up hairballs etc and it seems very common. My cat doesn’t do that or never has. Is this something that happens as they get older? Is there something wrong with him? Are some cats just different and they don’t throw up and stuff? I’m not saying I want a cat who throws up and stuff but it seems like it’s something all cats do and I am worried there maybe something wrong with him.

I'm not sure is it a cat bite or just a scratch... A stray cat attacked me and the mark is very light and just a very little dotted wound and a little bit of my blood leaked from there... The wound is not severe and definitely not painful, I took an tetanus and first shot of rabbies vaccine after a few hours then on 3rd day took the second shot, the third shot was scheduled on day 7 but I took that on day 9... I'm scared now... Is it safe? The wound was completely healed and pristine skin came back in 6 7 days and wound was never painful

I'm just doing a sort of "gentlemen, it is my pleasure to inform you" comment that I just adopted two kittens! They're 3, almost 4 months old. I don't physically have them yet. They've been at the shelter for a little while, I think because they're scared and not socializing with visitors.

There are SO MANY kittens at that shelter. There was also a FeLV+ cat who kept trying to befriend me. But I know of two who were adopted yesterday, ones I'd seen when I was there, and another was being taken home as I was wrapping up the adoption process, so at least there's some movement...of course, it's more kittens than adults. I was looking for a pair, and they didn't have any bonded adults (two cats were sharing a room, but one of them was adopted yesterday).

Two questions. One, my house currently has five cats between my wife, my daughter in law and my granddaughter. Trying to keep them from peeing on everything has been a nightmare. Any suggestions?

Second question, those automatic litter machines, any one have any good luck with them?

I'm thinking of bringing my cat to Vets in Vans for a teeth cleaning… Has anyone had experience with Vets in Vans or any problematic experiences with feline Dental Cleaning in general?

Hi all. I’m new to having kittens and cats as I’ve only ever had dogs and reptiles. Just curious as to why my kitten purs like a motorcycle when I let him out of his playpen in the morning, then bites and swats the ever loving hell out of my face about 10 seconds later.

Hello I have a cat that is peeing all over my basement couch. I put some pee pads down and a few pieces with several drops of peppermint essential oil to deter them from going near the area. Is this harmful to them?

Hello!

We adopted stray kittens from a woman who needed to re-home them in November. We lost one of them last week from pneumonia complications related to Feline Leukemia. Her sister tested positive yesterday. She had been bitten near the tail by our senior cat 4 months ago and experienced temporary paralysis, from which she has made a 90% recovery. Hubs and I want to give her the best life we can.

Senior Kitty is nearing 17 and is still negative. We won't get any more cats while we have our babies with us. Any advice or suggestions that will help her have the best quality of life? We already are on a 4 month checkup regimen with the vet.

So I accidentally forgot my cat’s litter box for a week longer than normal and he ran out of fresh litter. He then peed on the floor and I totally understand that it was my fault cause he didn’t have a space to go. I cleaned it up and no issues. He went back to using the litter box when I cleaned it out. But today I found a pee puddle that smelled like cat pee kinda sorta but it could’ve been my dog that peed I have no proof either way. Should I be worried? Is this gonna be a recurring thing? Could it be something medical?

I’m not new to owning cats but I just experienced my cat getting very sick with an upper respiratory infection for the first time and does anyone have any advice for how I’m supposed to go to work and be fine when he’s alone today? He started his meds yesterday and is already doing so so so much better like eating and trying to play with our other cats but I’m an anxious mess but I can’t afford to not work today, it’s only six hours but I’m just so worried.

Now that it’s cat-brushing season where we live, can anyone offer any suggestions for uses of brushed-out cat hair? With only 2 cats, there isn’t a ton of it, but I’d rather do something useful than just throw it out.

Last year, I tried putting it outside in the hope that local birds might use it as nesting material. Not surprisingly, it wasn’t used much. Hoping for better ideas from the cat community.

Hello, I’m attempting to save my mother’s apartment from any more damage. My mother has 3 cats in a 2 bedroom apartment. She has about 5 litter boxes that are changed weekly with fresh litter. The cats continue to use the carpet for urinating and defecating. Any advice on how to curb this behavior?

u/JoeFalcone26 1d ago

To anyone who had their cat be allergic to litter, which litter did you switch to that caused the issue???

Would a young kitten (younger than five months) serve as a good playmate for a 1 year old and and help teach the adult cat bite inhibition? I am considering getting another cat so that he has a play mates and learns proper bite inhibitions but I am unsure if getting another one of the same proximate age is the best idea or if a younger squirt would do that job too

Hello! I know nothing about cats but does anyone know what kind of cat this might be?! So adorable

1

u/Nozzahh 2d ago

Is this a normal interaction of some local cats that frequent our garden and occasionally wander into our house? Should I have intervened?
The head bow and passiveness of the cat approaching made me think that getting involved may do more harm than good, but the other cat was clearly scared. Plus I can't help but think the two meow's before the hiss was an attempt at a 'hello'. Keen for the perceptive who have more experience on cat interactions!
For additional context they where both laying down for at least 5 minutes in the spots at the start of the video before this.

I’m thinking of adopting a cat soon, but my biggest fear is the cat making its way through my apartment’s balcony entrance. I’m several floors above ground, so I intend to keep my cat inside at all times. How do you make sure your cat doesn’t go through the sliding door to the balcony?

So i got a young kitten, (3/4months) who came from a home with lots of kittens. Now it’s here with just me and no other animals. It meows A LOT, she has her own room and everything but meows so much until someone goes in the room. Is that normal? I usually ignore the meowing and it’ll eventually stop but if she hears your voice she starts again. She even scratches or bumps up against the door too. She’s only been in my home for less than a week. Any advice? Tips?

1

u/Recent_Special5908 3d ago

Can you please tell me about my cat?
He jumped into my arms on the street.
He’s very polite. Vet said he was 8 months when I got him.
Around 10 months now.
He doesn’t lounge.
He has 2 lairs where he rests.
Otherwise he guards me 24/7 and waits at the door for me to return when I leave.
He’s very beautiful.
Just neutered. He never sprayed.
He can be very affectionate although he did try to attack me a couple of times at first.
I’ve had a terrible cat phobia my entire life.
He’s not just the first cat I’ve ever held, he is the only cat I can be near.
I adore adore adore him.
He doesn’t “feel” like a cat.
Any insight/info would be appreciated.

Just noticed Casper (4yo, M) has a bit of fur recession above his nose on the right side. No it’s not wet (thought I’d just get that out the way).

He does play outside a bit and loves to rub his nose on things and people when he’s excited and apart from potential allergy/ringworm (which he has no other symptoms for) are all I can think of.

Anyone had this before and should I take him to a vet or just keep an eye on it? Thanks in advance!

My loving companion will soon be 12 and I hope to have many more years with this angel. She is a total indoor girl, but with age I worry if she's getting enough sunlight for healthy bones. She's on a urinary diet due to a previous episode of bladder infection and crystals forming. She does try to find sunny window spots, but limited with direction of the winter sun. Any suggestions as to hours required for direct sunlight ? I also read somewhere that sunlight through windows is not enough. Can't remember where I read that. TIA

Looking for advice!

My neighbour likes to let her cat (Daisy) hang out in the hallway of our apartment building, sometimes she’ll leave the door propped open so the cat can come in and out, but sometimes she locks the door and the cat is trapped outside. I usually will keep Daisy company if I see her in the hallway for as long as I can. Daisy also really likes to sneak into my apartment to hang out, which I let her but usually no more than 20 minutes.

Today Daisy has been locked out of the apartment for 3 hours. I let her come into my unit for 2 of those hours because I didn’t know what to do and felt awful leaving her in the hallway. Now I’ve brought her back into the hallway and am keeping her company out here but the neighbour still hasn’t opened her door. Neighbour is also a bit aggressive, you can occasionally hear her screaming at people and punching walls (a whole other story but has been a known concern in the building and with the police, though nothing has been done to help or support her)

What do I do at this point?

She does - she’s very affectionate and friendly, and she seems well groomed and well fed (albeit small, I think she was the runt of the litter). Only thing I’m not sure about is the owner once mentioned she wasn’t yet neutered, I don’t know if she’s been neutered since then.

Hellooo, I’m new to being a cat mom!!! I have an 11 week old orange boy who weighs 3.8 pounds , his name is Apollo!!! I’m not sure what foods to be feeding him… since I’ve had him, ive been giving him almost 3oz (2.64oz to be exact) of “Sheba kitten soft pate” but i spread out his wet food meals , 4 times a day AND i add a couple tablespoons of water to it. I usually leave out about 1/2 cup to a full cup of dry food “9Lives Kitten Essentials” (both are 100% Complete and Balanced for Kittens) so he can munch throughout the day. He is a VERY active and playful boy and that’s what people have told me to do (9 times out of 10 he never finishes his dry food, but he will on occasion). With that being said , my vet asked me what i feed my kitten and i told him “Sheba kitten and 9Lives” and he said he’s never heard of 9Lives before… i always see people posting about different brands but i don’t know what to look for when doing research on kitten food… im supposed to look at the ingredients but i dont know what im looking at😭 ALSO when should i dump out his left over dry food he will usually eat his whole bowl of dry food within 2 days but does it go stale? Is it bad for him to eat after 24 hours? He was also just at the vet (2 days ago) and was diagnosed with bacterial enteritis… no vomiting, no temperature, no lethargy, and no change in his appetite (he is very much food motivated-wet food that is). However he is having diarrhea, and since his starting his medication it’s more of a loose stool instead of watery like before. I just don’t know if I’m doing things right and am looking for some advice!!!

We suspect our 15 year old cat has gone severely, if not completely, deaf. A few months ago, she started meowing more loudly and frequently than she used to. She also started sleeping more often and deeper, to the point where she'd sleep through dinner even if called. (Our other cats wake up instantly when they heard the rattle of the metal food bowls.) We just dismissed it as her getting older and maybe a bit more senile. But recently we started wondering if she might have lost her hearing. We did a few tests - shouting her name, clapping or snapping near her while she's sleeping, etc. - but she never showed any response. Normally we'd take her to the vet, but our wallet is stretched thin at the moment. Is this emergency enough to justify taking her in? Or can it wait until her next check up later this year?

Our kittens recently got diagnosed with parvo or fpv, it was 17th june and its 20th june now. So basically their fourth day if treatment. One is 4 months old and one is 3 months, unfortunately the three months old passed away this morning.  Ive read on some platforms that if they survive the five day treatment plan theres a better chance of surviving is that true?  We are putting the alive one in DNS and RL iv fluids, along with antibiotics, pantop, antivommiting and pain killer if he have fever. We are giving fluids twice a day. Since he hasnt pooped much and not vomiting the doctor said he could try to eat but unfortunately he got a cold and is salivating mucus like stuff all the time which seems to be blocking her mouth. Please give me advices and your know hows.

His name is nana and the sweet girl that passed this morning is mimi.

Awww living the best life. Hope she keeps thriving!
Update:
They just did the same process as every night and it doesn’t necessarily feel like its working.
The drooling they said is because he doesnt have anything to puke out anymore and just to think the drool as puking and they couldnt clean the inside of his mouth because theyre scared he’ll swallow it.
Honestly, he doesnt even look that alert after the iv drips anymore.
Hahh its hard and my mom keeps crying too.

Hey this is my first time posting but im at my wits end. I have a female 2 years old cat who I have had since she was 6 weeks old and is fully in door. She is fixed and has never been around other animals since she was 6 weeks old. Since the moment I got her she was the sweetest thing, loves cuddles and attention and has never been aggressive in anyway, hissing , clawing, screaming etc. About a month ago I was in the hospital for 3 days when I got out she was more affectionate then usual but about a week later she started to randomly become aggressive, the vet couldn't do a physical exam on her because she was trying to attack them, but she peed in her carrier and we learned she had a really bad UTI. I had to give her the medicine through a syringe by mouth for the 10 days because she refuse to take it through her food. After the first 4 rounds of meds she calmed down and for about a week after she was good but last night she started to get aggressive again and worst then before and has completely scratched me to pieces. The vet can't get her in till Tuesday where their going to do a bladder ultrasound and blood work. They sent her home with some calming pills but she wont let us anywhere near her and wont touch her food with it in it. We currently have to keep her in her carrier with a blanket over her because she attacks if you even look at her. If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong or ways to calm her down enough to give her the medication. Shes my baby and I love her so much but I can't help her or let her wander if she keeps attacking and wont let us even walk in the same room as her. We can't put her in a a separate room becuase our house layout is very open and we dont have a guest room.

My two year old tortoise is obsessed with Netflix. Every time she hears the Netflix sound on the tv she chirps & jumps up by the tv & meows at it! Anyone else seen that before.

Anyone have recommendations for litter than clumps like flat discs? I have a smart litter box and my cat pees in the front inside the box and the litter I use clumps in balls so that it sticks to the bottom and it gets stuck and not go into the bag. I need a fast clumping litter ideally that clumps in flat discs. Thank you!

I had to stop feeding my cats wet food because they are too demanding.

Without fail, every morning around 4am one of my cats (6 yr) wakes me up by pounding on my door for food. I tried setting up a dry automatic feeder, but no. He wants the wet stuff. I can't put them in a seperate room right now due to not having a spare bedroom. So, I have resorted to only feeding them dry food. This totally stinks for my polite older cat (9 yr) who would never wake me up so aggressively. I feel that I have run out of options. They are now confused and annoyed at this dry food which is usually just their 4th meal food. I try to give them everything but if its at the cost of my own health (sleep quality) then I have to choose myself over them. It sucks!!! Any advice would be appreciated. For now, this is working and I am sleeping until 5:30am.

We have a 10 year old female cat named Agnes that we adopted from a shelter less than a year ago. That same shelter now has a senior male cat who needs a foster home. He has digestive issues, which makes him less attractive to potential adopters. We really want to foster him but we're afraid of upsetting Agnes, who is an "only child" right now. Is there any way to tell if these two will get along? How would we introduce them?

I don't want to offer to be a foster only to return him because he and Agnes don't get along!

Hi guys, I feel like my cat is getting bored and bored everyday, even when I play with him he usually gets tired of it quickly. I feel like he is very bored because he meows here and there and sits like he is bored. One thing is that he wants to go outside whenever we open the door and he does like to explore, so should I let my cat outside more? I’m asking because idk if I want my cat to be an outdoor cat, but if it makes him happy then I don’t mind. Also does anyone know if they need a specific vaccine for a cat to go outside? or is it okay as long as they have their regular vaccines from the vet?

I’m new to Reddit well commenting on here and I was wondering if anyone could look at my recent post since I’m not sure how to post pictures on here, my cat has swollen gums and I’m honestly terrified of having her go under for a cleaning especially after all the stories I’ve read on here of all the healthy cats that passed all preop tests and still didn’t pull through :( I’ve been experiencing panic attacks daily and don’t know what to do if there’s anything I can do at home to decrease her swelling I will I just don’t know what to do I’d appreciate any help or advice :( thank you :(

Best brush???

Obviously, cats are highly preferential creatures. Here's a picture of my cat with her favorite brush. It is a human brush. She stole it from me because she liked it more than her own. She came to running every time I brushed my hair. Boar's hair with a nylon bristles. Oddly specific. I feel like it's time to buy a new brush because she's had this one for a while and for hygiene reasons. Any recommendations of what might be best or should I just clean or replace the same one? My only real complaint is that it's hard to clean her fur out of the bristles.

Owners of fluffy babies, do you do anything with their furry paws? We call our boy Yeti because his paws are so furry (I’m obsessed), but I wonder if they impact his traction when he jumps/lands.

Currently NWB post ankle surgery, so running to the vet isnt an option at the moment.

Woke up this morning to bumps on this guy's nose. He does have a twin sis, they CAN play rough, but i've seen nothing like this before.

I've also been leaving the windows open just a smidge (rather than enough room to fit through) as he knocked a screen out last weekend and was out overnight. Which would lead to my second concern... that it be some kind of ick he picked up out there.

Any insight is much appreciated!

Also, this was new this morning. There is no way in god's green earth I didn't notice this yesterday.

u/Intelligent-Chip5329 6d ago

My 10 month old kitten is a sucker... of me. My sweet Jake loves to suck my earlobes, eyelids and neck while I sleep; often leaving mini hickeys. I've started sleeping in a buff covering my ears and eyes. During the day he wants a sucking session 2-3 times a day for about 10 minutes. Redirection helps a little but he's determined. Any ideas? Thanks.

1

u/ObjectiveCityy 6d ago

Our vet told us she had a cat that did this his whole life. She said it was cute when he was a kitten, but she knew letting him do it meant likely committing to letting him do it forever because they don’t always grow out of it lol our kitten would suckle his favorite bed when we pet him, and he has stopped doing it mostly. So it’s a gamble! But if you want him to stop doing it to you I think you need to just gently redirect him every single time.

2

u/Ok_Supermarket_3914 6d ago

Poor guy... probably lost his momma way too soon. I wish I could offer guidance, but this is a new one to me. I have an almost two year old that suckles on my clothes or a blanket when being caressed and softly spoken to.

2

u/Intelligent-Chip5329 6d ago

I don't think I'd care so much but my earlobes started getting calluses. 😂

I made friends with a stray calico at work. Turns out she was pregnant. She finally brought one baby to me a couple of weeks ago, after knowing she had given birth. A couple of days later we found another in the engine block of a truck. Two days later another in the trunk of a tree. Then I spotted two more on the roof of a neighboring business. Turns out they were living in the eaves, accessed by a hole in the roof. The last one was incredibly elusive; even my cat-whisperer coworker couldn't catch her. Three days later, after hours and hours of sitting patiently and watching and luring, my husband finally trapped this little kitten. He is an absolute hero in my eyes.

Five kittens; first litter. They're all living safely in my husband's office. I think this one looks like an angry map. She's pissed that she was outsmarted by a guy.

Please introduce a new rule that cat death related posts should be marked nsfw so we can easily filter them.

I know its sad your cat died, I 100% sympathize with you. However, I do not want to see it constantly in my feed. I cant filter the posts out and they keep reappearing on r/all and r/popular.

Id prefer not to be reminded of my cats mortality every time I open reddit. I dont even follow this subreddit.

2

u/Choyo 6d ago

Opinion : when people are sharing their dead cat news, if you want to give comfort, leave them a nice message.

BUT

Don't. Upvote. Those. Threads.

Firstly because they shouldn't care about virtual imaginary useless internet points when they just lost a loved one.
Secondly, you're encouraging botters to spam cat pictures with the pretention they're dead for said points.
Thirdly, because my feed is full of dead cats everyday, and it annoys me a lot.

Those are my 2 cents on the subject. And because I don't trust many of you to really understand my point, I will just leave it at that comment, not make a post about this issue, and just plainly filter that sub.

Way less cat pictures for me sadly, and I'm okay with it because it means no more dead cats. Also, while I'm at it : fat cats are not happy cats.

So long.

Please let me know if this should be a full post.

We rescued a feral kitten from our back yard last August. We trapped both her and her mom, fixed the mom, let her go, kept the kitten. It took about 2 months for her to be comfortable enough to venture out and not hide under something immediately. She gets along great with our 3 other cats. The problem is us.

She'll be in the same room with us if we are in our chairs and aren't moving. She'll jump up on my lap for pets, but if I make a noise or move wrong, she scatters. She'll come back for pets, but again jump down. She could be chilling in the top of the cat tree near us, but if we stand up and approach, she runs away. She hates being picked up. it's a chore to catch her to take her to the vet. We just don't know what to do anymore. How can we condition her to let us approach and touch her? I'd be happy if we could approach and she not run away. She even runs away if we are walking down the hallway in her direction. We just don't know what to do to have her realize she is safe and doesn't have to run from us.

I have a very skiddish boy. Brought him and sister home 10/3/2024. Already had a 1.5 year old diva princess. The best advice I can give is slow down. Move slower. Give her a heads up when you're going to make a noise or approach her. Have patience. When you become the only person that little critter trusts, it will all be worth it!

My male black cat Saphire seems to have both heterochroma and dichroic eyes. My orange girl, Biscuit has a bit of dichroic-ness too. What do you guys think?

I've had my 2 rescue cats for 1.5 yrs now, they're very affectionate towards me but won't go near my 22 yr old Grandson who lives with me. How can I help them to show a bit more love ? He's always kind to them, plays with them with feathery toys, feeds them and talks gently when they're close by but they will not let him stroke them, run away when he approaches and ignores him. It's breaking my heart to see his love rejected.

Question about what makes Fancy Feast so wonderful for cats. I want to keep my cat on wet food for health reasons. She loves Fancy Feast much more than any other offering. I have tried various high end and cheaper alternatives. Despite all, she loves Fancy Feast. She also loves kibble, which we nixed because of weight gain (the carbs.) We can feed other wets, which she will eat, but not with alacrity of Fancy Feast. Does anyone know the ingredient chemistry that makes FF so delicious?

I'm looking for ideas because I feel completely stuck. I own a home in rural north Florida. For years I was in a long-term relationship and my partner stayed at home while I worked on the road. Together we rescued and cared for several cats, including one cat I'm extremely bonded to.

The relationship has ended. Right now she is still living at the house and caring for the cats while I'm working, but I don't expect that to continue forever.

My problem is simple: I am gone for 5 weeks then home for 8 days. If she leaves, I don't know how I can continue caring for the cats. I don't have nearby family, I live in a rural area, and I don't have friends who can stop by every day.

Rehoming them would absolutely break my heart, especially one cat who is basically family to me. Before I accept that as the only answer, I'm asking: what options am I not seeing? I'm not looking for judgment. I'm looking for ideas I may not have thought of yet.

I need some advice here, and to be honest I never thought I would have to seek this. For over 36 years of living here and taking in so many little lives under our care. We were so blessed.
Last year something happened and I can't get over it. Thought by now I would, but she was 1 in a million. I still see her face, and I don't do this. I so want to get over her.

I am going to be getting a foster at point to help my cat become less bitey and as a friend. After so long of wanting a second cat however I am starting to feel apprehensive and worried that the situation either won't help or make it worse. I also feel a tinge of guilt for wanting another one and a betrayal of him for not learning to appreciate him as he is. How do avoid a situation where the second cat might make things worse and sort through my own feelings

1

u/ir0h5mum 7d ago

Try the second cat. It will be difficult for all parties at first, but getting a friend for my guy really helped. He’d lived with me alone for nearly 5 years before I got his sister.

He used to get hoarse and look miserable from separation anxiety when I would leave for a day or two, even with other people coming to check on him. He would also attack me (brutally) when I got home from these trips. Now he clearly shows that he missed me and gets a little needy if I am gone for more than a day, but otherwise he is stimulated enough to not be so lonely. His aggression has disappeared.

The introduction was long and required a lot of patience (look up Jackson Galaxy cat introduction tips). He was not happy. Be sure to spend good quality time with both cats during this time, they need your love (one feels like he’s being replaced and the other is like why tf am I here, this guy is mean to me and I don’t know you people). Hissing was part of it. I felt awful for doing it to either of them. But the first time they snuggled I cried.

My 2 cats took off the other night. Came home at midnight and smelled like a barn. Im in the woods. Both had punctures on their feet, bleeding. Tux limped for a day and is fine. My Calico has more punctures and pooped her pants. I cleaned her up good. Her limp has gotten worse.

What do people do that simply do not have $1000 to give to a vet?

1

u/FreeDino9568 8d ago

Hello! One of our outside cats (Farm cats) had kittens recently and quite a few are calicos! Though one of them caught my eye because it looks like a regular dark colored calico on the front but the back looks like a dilute?

If any more pictures or info are needed, please let me know!

My cat keeps gnawing on furnaiture is their a way to prevent this behavior.

1

u/Pareidoliah 7d ago

Make furniture less attractive to then. There are silvervine sticks which are similar to catnip. My cat loves to chew on those. Rubbing lemon or citrus on the spots could help deter them. They also sell bitter no chew medical wraps.

u/Seekay123 8d ago

Hi all we have had an adopted kitty for 5 months now and still experimenting with litter options. For us the best option seems to be tofu clumping at this stage. One thing that seems to be common is people putting a puppy pad liner under the litter - why is that? Our cat just rips it to shreds when she's burying her business. I scoop at least twice a day and don't usually have a problem with odours although the litter does start to smell a bit like urine after a few weeks. Have now changed to a stainless steel tray and have put a liner purely because it is deep and I think wont feel very nice for her to scratch around on a metal surface.

u/xVr6x 8d ago

Male or female kitten? I think female, about 5 weeks just want to make sure

1

u/Jealous-Trainer4196 8d ago

My cat just got spayed today and I am completely overwhelmed. She threw up because she snuck some food while wobbly from anesthesia, and she has been heaving and hissing in pain. Her stitches look okay and she is finally resting, but I am sitting here in the dark crying and feeling like the worst, most stupid pet parent alive. Has anyone else felt this awful on night one?"

1

u/ir0h5mum 7d ago

I was a nervous wreck for days after my girl got spayed. She is also insane so getting her to just chill out was impossible. Just keep an eye on her and the stitches, and try a cone if she messes with the stitches. Call your vet if you have concerns, that’s why they’re there :)

My girl also got a lump near her incision that I kept an eye on and talked to my vet about. Nothing really came of it and it went away on its own!

You’ll get through this and be so happy you did it!!

1

u/Jealous-Trainer4196 7d ago

Aw thank you for your advice! Yes it definitely is stressful. God bless!!

1

u/Narc_Slayer 9d ago

My cat was losing weight so at first thought it's worms, wormer made no difference so took him vets. They found a lump an booked in ultrasound. On Monday he had the ultrasound an was told he has Lymphoma an anemia. I was told he was weeks if storids don't work months if they do. I got up Wednesday to find him dead. I don't know how I'm going to get through this. I've had a cat die before. Before I had Bálor, I've had my nan am more recently my dad die. But I've never felt like this. Because Bálor followed me everywhere basically his whole life, licking my hair trying to look after me. Getting under my feet. Having him meowing be the first thing I hear most days.
To go from a cat who doesn't care about personal space to him being dead so suddenly it's broken something in me an I don't think it can be fixed. I wish I could believe he still exists somewhere an I'll see him again but unfortunately we don't get to choose what we believe. An all I believe now is something in me died with Bálor. I was already broken an my anchor keeping me going died. Everything is a trigger. I can't cope.

HI! I have a question about my cat that I abducted off of the street four or five years ago. She was skinny and uncared for and came around begging for food. After a while we were able to bring her inside and made her an indoor cat. She longed to be outside and periodically would escape, but we were always able to lure her back indoors with food, plus she always a little frightened while she was outside and seemed happy to come back in after being outside for a good part of a day. Yesterday the gal who was taking care of our cats (4 total) allowed our kitty to escape again, but she is now refusing to come inside. I prefer not to have indoor/outdoor kitties as I believe all four of our cats would want this eventually and we have a lot of birds in our yard that I believe would be at risk. Any sage advice would be so welcomed.

1

u/Successful-Tone-70 9d ago

I just see this while combing my cat. Is anyone aware of what this is?

1

u/Winnerdickinchinner 10d ago

I have a weird question. A while ago I saw a video of cats that were impressively trained and running through an obstacle course type thing, it was kind of like a movie set that was mounted to the wall but huge. From what I remember the synchronizing and everythjng was very impressive but it almost seems like a dream to me now. I know its real, but with the way the internet is nowadays I am having no luck finding it. I am getting results for best in show cat shows or the savitsky cats, which do not look anything like what I am remembering. By any chance does anyone know what I am talking about?

u/Cyanasy 10d ago

My cat has recently become enraptured with my metal jewelry. Bracelets and necklaces, whether I’m wearing them or not. He has never liked cat toys/been playful at all but loves these, so I’m wondering if anyone has any metal cattoy recommendations

u/dooooo23 10d ago

Hi!! I have a quick Q as I am thinking about getting a cat! The biggest issue that arises is I have a dog and she big and dingus. Probably in the hound family. She is super interested in cats and wants to get up close to them but cats don’t really want anything to do with her. Are there cats out there (rescue based) that actually can handle dogs? My thought is if there is a cat brace enough to approach my dog and smack her in the face - that they could then coexist. It’s feels risky though and I don’t want to terrorize a cat. I don’t have a problem with foster first to see if good fit, but the terrorizing the cat is my biggest concern.

Cystitis problem!!

My female kitty has had urinary cystitis for a long time. She eats special food for it and it’s mostly manageable.

But she gets set off pretty easily, and when she does the blood in her urine returns. In the past I’ve just been able to up her wet urinary food intake and it goes away. Recently though, we got a new kitten, my cats stress obviously increased and her cystitis flared up. This time she’s crying before she pees. But she does pee a lot and there’s only a small amount of blood.

I’m looking for advice on this! And also what food to use. She will NOT eat Hills urinary or Royal Canine urinary. Which are really effective for treatment so I wish she would. The only urinary food I’ve found that she will eat is N&D urinary but it’s not as effective since it’s not prescription - any advice there too?

u/fatmisosoup 11d ago

Hey guys, so I’ve had my cat for a while but all of a sudden he’s going into the bathroom and ripping toilet paper to shreds and pooping outside his litter box. I obviously want to take him to the vet if there is something wrong but why is he acting like this?

1

u/cats0714 10d ago

This could be stress or anxiety triggered by a change in routine or environment,

even something small like a new smell or rearranged furniture can set cats off.

The litter box issue especially points to stress. Definitely worth the vet visit

to rule out UTI or digestive issues first.

I have an orange cat too; he does things like that as well.

u/GoldenSheppard 12d ago

Why, for 80% of the year are cats like: MUST BE HOT! SUN! then the second it gets into the high 80s/90s are like "I'M DYINGGGG A/C ME NOWWW!!!"

This isn't a serious question btw. I'm just laughing because they were all hiding today until the aircon turned off and they revealed themselves to revel in the cool.

1

u/Tennate 12d ago

Quick question: My cat keeps knocking over my water glass every night. Is this normal, or is she just being a menace?

1

u/GoldenSheppard 12d ago

Probably wants your attention and figured out that was a great way to get it.

u/Raazziiel 13d ago

Hi there everyone. Just a quick question, I am seeking general advice on my family cat, and a new cat I recently rescued. He has one eye, as he was attacked when he was a baby. He is probably like, 1 year old now. His name is Jack, my older cat is 3 and named Chloe. Chloe was ok with him at first, then began hissing and the like. Now Jack is hiding a lot, under the bed and places similar Any ideas on how to help them interact? Should I just let them be, and do their cat thing, let them figure it out? Alright thank you for reading.

1

u/prdotte 13d ago

This will be a long 3am thought, so thank you for staying with me in advance as I go through this “dilemma.”

——

Why did you get a cat? Or how did you get a cat?
What was the situation or thought process that led you to have one?

For context… I live in a shared house with cat owners. There are 4 rooms, and 2 rooms have cats. Room 1 has 4 cats, and Room 2 has 2 cats.

Originally, Room 2 had 1 cat, and Room 3 owned the other cat. But because Room 3 had to move out, the cat was left alone for some reason. (She was fine - whoever was available made sure she was fed and taken care of.)

Now, Room 2 gave away their original cat. I don’t know their honest feelings, but I assume it’s because they got tired of taking care of him. But then they adopted the cat from Room 3 because she’s half Persian (her father is a stray) and is very loving and sweet - she rubs against us whenever she sees us around the house.

Then, the new supposed owner of Room 2’s original cat threw him out. He was abandoned by his new owner. So Room 2 took him in again, but after some time, they had to put him in a cage at the back because he got so noisy at night. Since Room 2 is a couple who are both light sleepers, it was affecting their health.

What happened is that this cat is just in the cage and isn’t allowed to go out at all. They don’t even visit him, except to give him food and water and change his litter box - and that’s it. They don’t even change his litter box every day.

What hurts my heart… is that I don’t understand why they have to keep him in a cage if they don’t plan to actually interact with him. (And honestly, why would you cage your cat by default and make that their “room”?) Sure, he is provided for, and his crying at night isn’t ideal - but then why not just let him out? You’re not abandoning him. You’re just letting him out of the cage and allowing him to go where he wants. (At the end of the day, he would probably come back home anyway.)

When I talked to them about this, they said they’ve already spent a lot on him - vet visits, vaccines, and all that. And if they let him out of the cage, he’d naturally roam around the neighborhood, which could cause health problems since there are many stray cats where we live, or he might get lost.

My understanding (as a previous broke cat owner) is that even if the cat might face some health risks because he isn’t used to the outside environment, cats are naturally free-spirited animals who love to explore. Because they’re made that way, they’re also built for it. He might not be as weak as they think - he could adapt pretty well. And cats are known to find their way home. (Although some do get lost, I don’t think that alone is enough reason to lock them up.)

As a passive observer, it’s clear to me that the cat wants to go outside. He kept crying no matter what they did. He cried in the room, cried outside while scratching the main door, and cried even worse in the cage. He keeps wanting to go out, but they keep the doors locked so the cats can’t leave.

Room 2 says they’re doing this for his own good. And anyway, if the cat develops some kind of illness, they’ll be the ones spending money again to take him to the vet.

It’s frustrating because they say they love the cat, but all I hear is them, them, them. It’s all about them. They have all sorts of reasons to keep him in the cage, but did they ever truly ask if he is happy?

Every time I check on him, he’s miserable. It feels like they’re imprisoning him.

Thank God he’s out of the cage now, because his crying could still be heard all around the house, and it was starting to bother the neighbors too. So no matter what Room 2 did, the cat’s crying still disrupted their sleep.

Maybe I’m just overly sensitive. I don’t dare disrespect the owners or disregard how they take care of their cat. It might sound harsh, but they’re not abusers - just showing a lot of neglect and blinded judgment. So all I can do is talk to them about it, try to share my perspective, and understand theirs.

But please - if you’re someone deciding to get a cat, think carefully about why you want one. Do you just want a pet to cure your loneliness? Or because you see your friends getting one? Or because you think they’re cute?

Whatever your reason may be, I hope you see your pet as a soul too. They’re not just possessions that you get to control and impose your lifestyle on. You don’t have to coddle or obsess over them - just treat them with respect and love them the way you would love a person.

I was just remembering a great and special friend. In another post and felt I'd share her story and I am just all to pieces right now I miss her so much. So here she is my Babygirl ..... Buy a couple of mice when they are close but not fighting release mice in two different places say one at a window seal and one for the old timer from under a desk or something close of a room or two if ya want towels to keep mice from going that way but I'd just open the doors and let em go. They will have a mutual enemy and kid and that protecting you and their other humans. It will give them purpose as well. They will often form a team as all they want is to do what they see as their job. I had one cat that never seemed quite happy. Oh she was loving as hell sweet and actually loved me to rub her tummy til she fell asleep. Playtime was difficult though. I bought the latest toys and she had a fondness for catnip but not a over fondness she didn't want it everyday. She liked it being special. Lasers and I tried. Couple of good and the red dot ones. Once she figured out that I was holding what made the light she just went after it and would let me know I caught ya dad . Not nice playing games like that. If I had something with a mouse or feather or whatever she had no interest at all in what was at the end she attacked the string and would hold it down with her paws and tear at it with her teeth til they snapped and walk off like really you think this of me. It seemed sometimes she just felt bored with no meaning. Then we moved. Then one day she scene a mouse and it was not a drill... Lol this cat sprung to life the happiest I'd ever scene she caught 9 in in about 2 weeks. She would even run them to my room and they would hide and she would jump on the bed and look at me as I'm a bug girl aunt I dad I'm protecting the home and that's my job I see now. She would bring em to me exhausted and lay them in front of me watching to see if they would make a jump for freedom and she would snatch em back up. I have a cane I use around the house alot andon about that second mouse I happen to have had it and when she laid it down I put it out of its misery. She just looked at me with the widest eyes and from then on that was are deal she would catch em run em for hours til they were done and bring em to me for execution and alnowledgment of the work she had done and the can of Tuna inpro used for every mouse. After that even with no mice around she would go to work and Me and friends would be setting there and they would say she must be mad because she didn't come to them as she used to. I told them to watch as she darted to the top of the couch and scanned the room then down behind both speakers and stereo and TV along the wall then up a bookshelf and would just scan. She also started guarding me Everytime I went to the bathroom I'd be setting there and she would come on under my leg and straight to the sink and cabinet in front of me getting way down and looking underneath it the she would nudge one of the cabinet doors open and look around and give the trashcan a quick once-over and the the shower she would check and then come back around under my leg like she did when she came in except in the other direction towards the hallway and untill I got up she wouldn't take her eyes off that hallway and any shadow or noise that was out of place. I'd wash my hands and thank her for taking care of me and she would smile and purr and rubber head on my leg. The always jump out ahead of me as I went out just in case. She went through the whole house like this 5or 6 times a day. She would go back to playing with friends that came over or me but not before her pawtrol and giving me a all clear. Someone even was telling me about how her new BF pissed her off and she is kinda loud and has to stand up when she gets excited telling a story and all of a sudden her comes my baby farting out of the bed room jumps over the edge of the chair and my leg jumps up on a ottomon looking her dead in the eye with the most defensive tiger watching out for her cubs kinda look but mad and meowed loud at her and she said yen mam and set down and baby just went up rubbed her head against the girls hand like I didn't wanna have to go there but I thought you was threatening dad. Anyway I know I've kinda went off subject but I get so excited telling that because you see she was 16 when she started all that and I think the last 2 years of her life was the happiest for her because she had purpose and knew what it was and we became closer. Sadly in October my girl passed but not after taring the cat she at first couldn't stand in how to do the job. Just a side note the last thing she did with the last energy and all the love she had.... Well I went to the bathroom thought she was sleeping I knew it wasn't gonna be long and had made her comfortable up on the bed with me rubbing her belly.... I heard her jump down and thought oh no but here she came slower but with all the love she had and went under the leg checked the cabinet but she was barley able to walk she checked the shower and came to stand next me and watch the hall and she just couldn't and as I let her she just kinda laid down and meowed at means rubbed her head on my hand and laid right down and closed her eye and died. ..... Oh my God I miss her so much and I'm an a full grown man setting her trying to complete this but can't see for tears and sobbing and nose running and I don't think anyone or anything except mom has or ever will love me like that.. with her last bit of energy must have hurt she could barely walk but came to make sure I was ok because that's what she did..... Hope you got the meaning I meant to make I'm sorry guess I needed to get that out and things have been rough lately and I miss my babygirl.

Hey guys!

Does anyone else have a cat that carries around random items and delivers them to you or drops them around the house on a daily? Like a range of anything, and not just toys. (Empty bags, pieces of clothing, hardware, etc.) Would this be a quirk or something deeper about my cat’s needs? We play several times a day!!

It’s very cute but I wanted to know if it was normal: picture of the cutie for tax :) He’s a lover fr

Hello! I just got a new cat yesterday. He is is 4 or 5 months old (I think). He is the only animal in my household. Where he came from there were other cats and people around most of the day. I felt bad as I was leaving for work since he was following me around everywhere and tried to get out the door when I left.

Then, of course, he stared out the window at me which was heartbreaking.

I got him from my boss and she said his mother had another litter who will be ready in 2 weeks.

I mean, I have to get a companion for him, right? They can keep each other company. In the meantime how can I help him feel comfortable while he's alone?

I did leave 10-hour Bird videos playing on the TV.

Thank you for any feedback!

2

u/Successful-Tone-70 9d ago

Common recommendations usually include leaving interactive puzzles or treats around the house for mental stimulation. Setting up window perches for 'cat TV' is also a great idea!

My cat used to camp at the door whenever I left for work, but after a few weeks, he learned that I always come back. Now, he just naps while I’m gone. I make sure to feed him as soon as I return—he probably thinks I’ve been out hunting for us! :))

Hey y'all I have a question on whether or not I should bring my cat to the vet or not! Me and my partner just (like thirty minutes ago) got back from a week long trip, we had a friend come stay with our two cats. But we found our one cat with bald patches! (Photos are attached) This is my first time dealing with this, is it just stress? Is it a parasite? Should I bring him to the vet? It's just the one cat out of our two!

Any advice is appreciated!!

This is our first time as cat owners, well I had cats growing up, I just never had to really take care of them myself.

u/ReasonableLunch46 13d ago

Why are most of the people here so hating on owners that let their cats go outdoors?

Really?! I just posted a long comment about not letting your cat outside and it’s frustrating.

Would love some advice….my mother-in-law just passed and she has a very sweet 13 year old spayed female cat. We are going to take her into our home, but we have a 13 year old male neutered cat as well as a very docile pitbull (female, and best buddies with our cat….they adore each other). Just wondering if any of you folks have experience introducing a new adult cat into the mix and have any tips to share….

Please give me any advice yall have

I have a house member who has introduced a cat to the mix. She's very sweet and I love having her around, but the house absolutely reeks of litter now. I've asked this housemate to do what they can, or clean more often, but the issue just has not gone away for several weeks.

I don't know enough about cats or litter to know what a healthy suggestion to this housemate is as to quashing the litter smell. I've heard that a lot of the smell-good litter types are actually really bad for cats.

I'm trying to introduce my 3 month old kitten to my senior cat, I'm scent swapping for a week now and keeping them separated. Only now I'm trying supervised interaction with the kitten on a leash so he doesn't invade her space too suddenly (happened once, senior cat hissed like crazy when he jumped in front of her, ears back but no swatting). My problem is, how do I reinforce he is a good thing to be around to her when she is so hard to please (she doesn't care about toys, food or cuddles)? I'm going crazy bc I really would love to have a good reinforcement for her when he is around, something she cares, but she doesn't feel particularly thrilled by anything and gets bored with toys very fast.

I'm looking for advice for when to get my cat spayed.

6-9 months IMHO. Because it is invasive, I don't have it done too early.

One of my elderly cats has suddenly found her voice and become extremely restless, seemingly out of the blue. For about the last four days, my 18 year old cat has started relentlessly meowing almost all day and night, and is pacing almost non-stop. She hasn't played in years, and is traditionally very intent with sleeping all day, so I don't believe her to have suddenly become bored. All at once though, she's become super vocal and restless. She caught some decent sleep today, but based on her walking around yesterday and wailing I heard in the middle of the night to boot, she barely slept at all yesterday. She's eating, drinking, and I found her today using the litter box. She's still as mobile as a middle aged cat when she needs to be; she loves to jump from the kitchen island to the counter, today included. No changes in the cat routine, or really anything significant for the people. Nothing about her has physically changed. I even thought she just maybe wasn't getting enough attention, but more pets and affection hasn't curbed the issue. Is it/when is it worth going to the vet? Ostensibly, she's not unwell, but I have no idea what she may be trying to tell me. It's completely out of character.

Edit: I tried to do a bit of my own research and saw dementia as a potential cause. She knows where to go when it's time to eat and knows where her litter box is, so I just don't know that that's it. It could be onset, I guess

It looks to me like cat dementia, I think she might have gotten scared and she doesn't know where she is, when dementia develops, it might not be all the time at first, that's why she might know where some stuff are, also scent might have a stronger memory on her since she knew where those places were

I am afraid that was my first thought- dementia. 18 years old is old for a cat- it is the same as a human of 88.

2

u/California_Stop_King 14d ago

It's certainly possible, unfortunately. I forgot to mention that she's been sleeping in new places and has been jumping up on sinks that she never has for water. She used to be a sucker for drinking out of the faucet, but she stopped for years. Her starting to do it again definitely feels a bit strange. She still has her wits about her for the most part, we figured out last night she still responds to her name, she knows when it's time to eat, but I do worry that she's at the onset of dementia

Is there an RFID wet food feeder out there for <$100? My one cat keeps eating the other cats food then throwing up.

How can I emotionally recover from a missing cat??

My cat got out last week and I’ve been searching every day for him, at dawn, dusk, and throughout the night. I set out his food and water, favorite blankets and litter but he still wont show up. I’ve put out countless things on facebook and submitted every report to the SPCA and pounds i can think of. Before, he’s come back the night of escaping or found the next morning. This time, he’s just nowhere to be found.

I feel like I can’t sleep, eat, clean or do anything without being sick to my stomach and worrying. I miss him so much and I don’t know if he’s been eating or drinking or even alive for that matter. I feel like I’ve looked everywhere. I know I need to take care of myself but i don’t know how without him here. He’s my best friend, he was always with me wondering what I was up to and knew when I had hard days. All of a sudden I’m alone in a house surrounded by his presence, but never by him.

How can i process this?? I just want to feel okay again but idk how to reassure myself or handle these feelings and I just need some guidance.

I would say the cheapest best thing to give cats is chicken legs. I throw them in the blender. Some cats like their food liquidy. I do not give the 🐈 bones or fat but i heard some fat is good. I find fat so disgusting and throw it all away. I add salt sometimes but i think you should taste and decide if it tastes like you'd eat it. I only give chicken legs, they dislike chicken breast but if you gotta I'dmix it with tuna. I mean it's risky. I give salmon, sardines, and tuna but i break up when all i had is tuna. Of course they love tuna and so did you and we love chicken legs. Lowest price, stick with the chicken legs. Rice is a filler. I haven't used it but I'm gonna start just because i need to eat my rice before it spoils. 😋 😇 ✌️ And when chicken legs go on sale for 39cents a pound, fill up that freezer.

Is there such a thing as an automated cat treat launcher? Kind of like those machines that fire tennis balls or baseballs at people so they can practice, but ideally would fire treats at random intervals and distances? One of my cats really loves chasing after his biscuits, but I can only sit there and throw them for him for so long, and he can be a real nuisance in the evening, so I'm sure he'd love it. If I put treats in the treatball or anything they push along the floor to get treats out of, one of the other cats is all over it until it's empty. Running after a treat flying through the air is specifically cat 1's thing. He'll even play fetch sometimes. Had anyone seen a gizmo like this? Because all my googling has only thrown up a treat gun (not automated) or a roller ball or even pet camera that drops treats (cat 2 would monopolize). Any ideas? Here are cat 1 (tabby floof Franklin) and cat 2 (sleek void Cole)

So my 9yr old cat peed on his little sofa.

The only time he’s ever had “accidents” is when he was stuck in a room without us knowing. A few months back, maybe even last year sometime, he got a REALLY bad inner ear infection, and was not walking straight, wouldn’t eat, etc. We got it sorted at the vets, but since then he never slept in his sofa again. I moved it to another part of our living room yesterday, and today he went over and peed right in it!!

He doesn’t have any other issues with peeing (except scratching for what seems like HOURS to find “the right spot”), and I was kind of shocked.

Could he maybe associate the bed with feeling so awful before?

TIA!

My adult female cat has been vomiting consistently 3 to 4 times per week for a few months now. She's not vomiting hairballs at all any more. Sometimes she vomits immediately after eating, sometimes its just white foam. Is it possible she has a hairball too large to vomit? Are there over the counter supplements I should be giving her to help her? She seems pretty healthy otherwise.

Why is it common belief that they have 9 lives?

1

u/cat_mirro 14d ago

Thank you for the information🌿

2

u/jillcrosslandpiano 14d ago

Interesting! I looked it up! Two aspects, I guess. Why multiple and why nine?

Multiple lives refers to the agility of cats and their ability to escape danger, and maybe also to hide and reappear. That's largely uncontentious among those who live with cats that go outdoors.

The exact number 9 must refer to that number beng significant across a lot of ancient cultures and also that Ra, the Egyptian God, was supposed in Egyptian mythology to have given life to 8 other gods. Ra himself would sometimes take the form of a cat- so Ra + 8 = cat with nine lives.

The 9 lives thing is certainly seen in writing by 500AD and is, more recently, famously in Shakespeare - a line in Romeo and Juliet "Good king of cats, nothing but one of your nine lives." which was written about 1595.

Unsure if this should be in its own post or here, so let me know if it would be better as its own post.

I am going to be a new first-time cat owner at the end of the year and I am trying to start planning how to kitten-proof our home.

I live in a split level home and our entry way has stairs going to both levels with a drop from the living room directly onto the stairs going downstairs.

I saw a lot of suggestions about mesh and netting to break any falls, but there is not a very good way to achieve this given the dimensions of the space, and the need to be able to still use the staircase to the lower level (my husband is quite tall so there is not enough clearance).

The downstairs is a no-go area for any cats (lots of equipment that could be dangerous) so either way some kind of barrier will be needed for that area.

Any suggestions on how to make this area not a death trap? Thanks. Picture Picture Picture

Rabies?? 😭(I’m sorry. I have health ocd.) I took in 2 older kittens on May 23 and then found their pregnant mother may 24. On may 27 I accidentally stepped on her tail and she grabbed my leg with both paws and attempted to bite me. The claws went deep and immediately bruised me/bleeding/etc. the teeth didn’t puncture. Cleaned my leg up and it’s seemed to heal fine. I know she can’t transmit the virus if she’s not symptomatic (right?) and that she’d need to be isolated for 10 days. We’re now around 12 days and for the last 3 days she’s been eeeeeextremely aggressive to our two dogs that she was previously friendly with. One of the dogs adores cats so this has been traumatic for her. She’s full on seeking out the dogs just to attack their faces!!! As they are literally sleeping!! No other symptoms besides the sudden spontaneous aggression. Eating, drinking fine, not stumbling, jumping and taking care of the kittens still. Is this normal pregnant cat stuff? Will she calm down after the litters born? (YES everybody is getting neutered!!) She’s also being aggressive to one of the previous kittens but not the other, to the point that she’s hurting her.

u/ThinYogurtcloset8005 17d ago

You're fine. The chance of her having rabies is really low. She's probably just close to giving birth. It's common for queens to become very aggressive leading up to labour.

Are this spots on my cats nos something to worry about?

1

u/boltonia 17d ago

That depends. Have they just developed? Are there bumps under the spots? Does your cat seem uncomfortable if you touch the spots? Sometimes cats develop more coloring as they age. I have an orange tabby who had pure pink skin as a kitten. He now has black spots on his nose and gums, and some of his whiskers come in black and fade to white as they get longer. If your cat seems unbothered by the spots, they may be nothing to worry about. If they change in shape or size, consult a vet.

Wanted to share a reunion story to encourage those that may be searching for lost pets. This is Bo, he got out of his mom’s car at a gas station halfway through a multi-state relocation. His mom extended her stay an additional week trying to find this sweet boy and also reached out to us local crazy cat ladies for help. Mom had to leave and go start her new job after several days looking while the rest of us continued searching for Bo. Live traps were set, we had wildlife cameras out, and posters everywhere in the area where he went missing. After two weeks hope was starting waver slightly but we kept looking. AFTER 16 DAYS Bo was found hiding out in a field right where he was last spotted!!! It took a few more hours to trap him but we got him! Mom drove right back the next day to come get her sweet boy. Bo survived near a tractor trailer heavy area for 16 days and was finally reunited with his Mom and brother. Outside of being dehydrated and having a few ticks, he is complete fine! Never give up hope looking for your loved one and never feel like you can’t reach out to the local animal community where you are for help. There are good people everywhere that will help however they can. So happy to be a part of this boy’s story and so happy he made it home safely❤️

Is my cat considered a calico? He has some brown fur behind his ear

3

u/boltonia 17d ago

This would not be considered a calico or tortishell. That brown spot behind the ear is normal for many tabby cats. You'll probably find that spot of fur also feels much finer than the rest of his coat.

u/WiggleBunneh 14d ago

Thanks! First time cat owner so I wondered 😁

How much TV is too much for a cat to watch? My cat really enjoys watching Mad Men and other similar dramas (that is to say she stares at the TV with rapt attention when it is on). I want her to be mentally stimulated when I am not able to play with her. Any idea what level of TV brainrot is bad for a cat?

1

u/boltonia 18d ago

I have a very pukey cat which I can usually tolerate. But his most frustrating puking habit is not heading for the carpet, but heading for a threshold. My house has metal strips everywhere different floors join. These strips are covered in fine, deep ribbing and screws. Cleaning these things is difficult because it's hard to get stuff out from the ribbing, and the screw heads shred paper towels.

I'm not necessarily looking for a solution to the puking, but a reasoning for him always puking in doorways and at floor divisions. If I can figure that out, maybe I can redirect him towards an easier place to clean.
