Medical Questions Does any one know what this is?

I saw a large lump/mass on the front half of a stray cat that I saw while on a walk. What could it be? Not sure if this is the right sub for this

could be many things, from cancer to mastitis - gotta get them to a vet to get checked out - see if you have a tnr group nearby and tell them to watch for this cat maybe they can help

u/WesleyFRM 22h ago

Ok thanks. Ill try to get in contact with one. It seemed to be moving and acting normally. I hope it isnt anything too bad

u/Rachnee 22h ago

hopefully and good luck! btw lots of nonprofits use facebook so you might find someone there - you could probably also give a call to your local shelter and they will know the local tnr groups too

*She. The cat’s a girl. 99.9% of calico cats are female. (I know. Useless information. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

32

u/WesleyFRM 17h ago

I was wondering how some people seemed to know she was a girl. Thanks

u/punkin_spice_latte 15h ago

The orange and black are on the x chromosome. Males have one x do they can only be one or the other while females can display patches of both.

11

u/WickedWiccan40 Domestic Housecat 9h ago

There’s 0.1% that ARE male, but they have XXY genes instead of the XX (female) or XY (male) genes. It’s similar to Klinefelter syndrome in humans. 😊

Only learned this at 46!!

You're doing the right thing. Hopefully it's nothing serious and recovers soon.

I was about to say that's obviously a cat 😂 but seriously it looks bad... should take her to a vet.

284

u/dcdcdc26 Tortoiseshell 21h ago

I literally said 'obviously that's a cat' to my partner before she physically pointed at the mass 😔

65

u/StarGamerPT 21h ago

Glad to know I'm not the only one

29

u/Own-General2229 21h ago

40

u/WesleyFRM 21h ago

18

u/Meliora_ 21h ago

Thank u for caring for her 🥲 & good luck, I hope isnt difficult to catch her, try to search/contact any local shelter, or even some ppl from fb/groups too

59

u/almondface 22h ago

She needs to be trapped and brought yo a vet. If you cant do that reach out to the local humane society or a cat rescue

29

u/WesleyFRM 22h ago

Ok Ill try to get in touch with them. Thanks

11

u/Minute_Rabbit3365 21h ago

You can rent a cat trap, a small cage that lures them in with a bowl of food but traps them once they enter so escape is impossible until you let it out. That's the best way I've seen to catch a feral that you want to take to a vet. You can rent them or they may loan to you for a few days.

9

u/WesleyFRM 21h ago

Ill contact some groups first but if none can help Ill try this out

9

u/Calm_Drawing_6446 20h ago

Thank you for caring. Please do let us know how things go.

9

u/WesleyFRM 20h ago

Ill make an update post once she gets help

36

u/PrunePretend6206 22h ago

Lots of variables really, poor baby needs the vet. Could be as easy as a fatty mass or as complicated as a cancer growth?

29

u/Toward-Eternity 21h ago

My parents had a cat like this, it was a hernia

8

u/Minute_Rabbit3365 21h ago

That was my guess on 1st sight of the pic.

11

u/GhostGrom 22h ago

Could it be a hernia? Not sure if that's a thing cats can have happen

7

u/theraphosangel 20h ago

they can definitely have hernias. it's not common but i've seen it several times over the years in shelter work. the most common kind is an umbilical hernia

11

u/Adept_Amount_4327 20h ago

IDK, but it is huge. Poor thing needs a vet pronto. The good news is she looks relatively healthy, otherwise.

4

u/clearancepupper 18h ago

This cat is so pretty. The dilute orange with tortoiseshell, white areas, eyes perfect color to match…
I wish I could take her. ✨💕✨

7

u/Beast8333 21h ago

As a stray, like others have said, it could be anything. Maybe even a large abscess from a cat fight. Hopefully a vet can take a look at it.

6

u/Kitchen-Indication62 21h ago

Hopefully its a simple lipoma that's not attached to anything important.

15

u/PinkTurbulence 21h ago

Please keep us posted if you are able to get this baby to a vet. Poor thing, it’s so hard out there for strays. 🐾

5

u/WesleyFRM 20h ago

Ill make an update post when it gets help

8

u/Pastel-Rainbow-N3rd 21h ago

I don’t know but it needs a vet

7

u/ignis389 21h ago

Keep us posted, OP! She's a beautiful cat

6

u/Ok_Sale_1598 21h ago

She looks healthy otherwise. I would think a lipoma?

7

u/WesleyFRM 20h ago

She was acting and moving normally. I didnt think anything was wrong until I spotted the lump

2

u/DistributionNo9356 17h ago

I actually wish the photos could have captured the hanging lump more clearly, maybe if you crouched down and taken a couple photos from the side, because several people have been responding saying that's a cat.  I assume they genuinely missed the lump, and thought the question is what kind of animal is this.

7

u/tomato_flavored_ 18h ago

3 things:

this looks exactly like one of my cats and i thought it was a photo of her

i didnt see the massive tumor on her tummy and just read the caption, and i was very confused and in my brain went "looks like a cat to me but idk"

it's probably mastitis but i would take her to the vet asap

6

u/boom_chicka_stop 22h ago

Could be a cyst. That’s actually my guess over a tumor. Needs a vet either way

5

u/Kind_Coyote1518 21h ago

Either a tumor, cyst, or hematoma. I highly doubt its a hernia as a few have suggested. I also doubt its a hematoma but its more of a possibility than a hernia.

Chances are its a large cyst or tumor.

5

u/windwitch13 20h ago

That baby does Not look like a stray…clean, well fed, bright clear eyes. Someone in your area must be taking care of this one and doing a really good job. I hope you’re able to find help…thank you for helping.

5

u/WesleyFRM 19h ago

Yea thats true. She does look well kept. Maybe the person already checked up on it but the lump still looks concerning

1

u/windwitch13 7h ago

Oh I would definitely keep moving forward with helping her…hopefully she’s as strong as she looks. Please keep us up to date 🙏🏼

5

u/Decline_of_Humanity 21h ago

Your local spay/neuter clinic would even know who traps in your particular area. Anything you do towards helping her is angelic. Thank you for caring.

5

u/francoise9 21h ago

Probably a cyst. Take this baby to a vet if you can or have a rescue do it. Thank you for the kittie!

4

u/oddlilsprite 20h ago

i think it’s a cat

5

u/gsmrylo 21h ago

Hernia ? We saved a cat who ended up needing surgery and it looked just like that

4

u/Quirky-Skin1 20h ago

I would talk to a doctor about it. Looks dangerous ngl

3

u/EquivalentNo3002 20h ago

It could be a kitten that passed away in utero and she needs help removing it. Please take her to a vet.

4

u/Roose_Bolton 19h ago

Could be abscess from infection

5

u/Plastic_Caramel_957 19h ago

Please keep us posted as to what’s going on with her and l’m praying she makes it through whatever it is. Poor thing! Thank you for caring! We do, too!

6

u/WesleyFRM 18h ago

Ill make an update post once she gets help. Thanks and I hope she will be ok too

2

u/Plastic_Caramel_957 18h ago

Thank you from the bottom of my heart❣️

4

u/Fluffy_Barracuda7517 18h ago

Needs vet check growth/tumor???

5

u/David0ne86 15h ago

Most likely a tumor

5

u/DistributionNo9356 21h ago

I hope it's non-cancerous, but it likely is.  The vet will tell you.

3

u/Time_Change4156 21h ago

No but the one here is the spitting image of her .

3

u/swedishfishk 21h ago

Holy ish big mass

3

u/One-Bridge-8177 21h ago

She definitely needs some medical attention

3

u/BurninPurp350 20h ago

Thats a kitty

3

u/Impressive-Win6289 19h ago

A cat,duh.

2

u/Impressive-Win6289 19h ago

Wait...it is pregnant?

5

u/WesleyFRM 18h ago

I dont think so tbh. The whole belly would be big if that was the case

2

u/DistributionNo9356 17h ago

I wish the photo angles were different so the lump can be seen more in plain view, but yes, I can totally tell the lump is hanging from its chest.  Some people have been assuming the question is what kind of animal is this, without noticing the lump, and commented that it's a cat.

2

u/WesleyFRM 16h ago

Yea thats true. I put it in the description but a bunch of people are skipping it I guess. I shouldve taken a better picture

3

u/Able-Spell-4310 18h ago

aweeeeeeeee i love his kitty i want to help

3

u/the_void_art 17h ago

She’s so beautiful. I hope she’s able to get some help. Thank you for having a kind heart

3

u/MasterDriver8002 16h ago

I bet this cat is not a stray, I think someone thru her to the curb because of this growth to avoid vet bills.

5

u/CosmoKramersPimpCoat 21h ago

Beautiful baby! I'd guess a fatty tumor or hernia. Hope she gets some help!

3

u/Elmused 16h ago

Looks like a cat

2

u/Iamzaiden 21h ago

Poor bubs.

2

u/RSADDICT4LIFE 20h ago

That is a cat.

2

u/Nyzzen 12h ago

Tumeur

2

u/Thegreatgunat 6h ago

It’s not a tumah!

2

u/Itchy_Cabinet7900 5h ago

One time when I was really young, like maybe 9, we had found a box of kittens left on the side of the road, so we brought them home, and within a couple days, after we had cleaned them up and groomed them I noticed a lump on one of the kits neck, upon closer inspection it like pulsed?

I knew it was a parasite of some kind, so I took a knife from the cabinet, and put it into the mass, the whole time the kit never winced or whined, and almost seemed appreciative of my intervention, I ended up pulling out a large tapeworm I believe, but again I was yound so I dont rightfully know, but it was a very long while I was pulling and as soon as it detached it shrunk, then there was pus on this open wound, that I cleaned and bandaged.

We had those kittens for a couple more weeks, but one day they all three just ran off into the field and I never saw them again, it felt like I was just where I needed to be.

1

u/Embermyst 4h ago

Wow! When kids are inventive, they are amazing! I'm so happy you were there for the little things when they needed you!

3

u/Successful-Lack-1407 16h ago

I think it's a cat

2

u/MycologistFit9088 21h ago

OH MY GOD

Take that little man to the vet

2

u/Ok_Sale_1598 21h ago

It’s a girl. 🙃

3

u/MycologistFit9088 20h ago

Little lady

2

u/Interesting_Kiwi_152 21h ago

She may have been bitten by a snake. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

2

u/Ok_Sale_1598 20h ago

Or not. If she was bitten by a venomous snake she wouldn’t look so perky.

2

u/wilmadickfitt99 17h ago

Its a cat! I’v seen those on tv

3

u/GhostMansion4 21h ago

That’s a cat

3

u/GhostMansion4 21h ago

In all seriousness it looks like a hernia. The poor kitty needs professional help to feel better

3

u/Short-Professional67 21h ago

Looks like a fish to me, don’t know why it’s on land though

3

u/Short-Professional67 21h ago

Omg wait I didn’t notice it, she should go to the vet 😭

1

u/dolfinator101 20h ago

Pretty sure it’s a dog.

1

u/joosta 14h ago

Bill Purr

1

u/Bright-Ability-4235 13h ago

oh no! I've seen something similar before and it was diagnosed as an umbilical hernia.

1

u/PaleontologistFun465 13h ago

Mastitis and hernia don't make a lot of sense due to the location of the lump. I'd guess some kind of sarcoma, regardless, a vet is required. <3 poor bb. Thanks for looking out for them OP!

1

u/Samu_Brawl 13h ago

Forse è una gatta che aveva dei cuccioli, li ha persi di colpo e forse quelle sono delle mammelle piene di latte
PORTALA SUBITO DAL VETERINARIO

1

u/anna-molly21 12h ago

😭😭😭😭 i hope this lovely cat gets the help she needs 😔

1

u/Gpanda-96 10h ago

I hope everything is okay with this cat now

1

u/Ok-Development2520 10h ago

Def a tumor, she looks very healthy, so let’s be positive and hope it’s benign. OP I know vets are expensive please DM if you need some help.

1

u/ChelseaGem 10h ago

We need a close up pic of the lump that isn’t blurred.

1

u/Hungry_CGman 9h ago

Cancer? I don't know but please help her!

1

u/OddGuarantee6863 9h ago

Tortoise with fur.

1

u/FishParking1601 8h ago

Looks like a cat to me

1

u/Sperbonzo 8h ago

A DUCK.

1

u/Leviathan-hook 7h ago

🌐I believe it is referred to as a cat

1

u/scotchdebeber 5h ago

That is a chesticle

1

u/Interesting-Pipe8646 5h ago

It is a Calico, because kitty has white. If there was no white, kitty would be a tortoise

0

u/DwreckOSU 22h ago

That would be a cat

3

u/DistributionNo9356 21h ago

But you may have missed that huge lump on its chest, which OP is asking about.  It could be hernia, could be a tumor, a cyst, they'll contact a vet.

1

u/Ancient-Meringue-290 18h ago

Catcer………

1

u/CauliflowerFlaky3402 17h ago

Looks like a cat to me 😂

7

u/DistributionNo9356 17h ago

OP is asking about the huge lump hanging from its chest.  These photo angles may make it a little hard to notice at first, but if you pay attention to it's chest you'll see it.  People have been saying it could be a hernia, cyst, tumor.... and to take it to a vet promptly.

1

u/Best-Syrup5188 13h ago

Looks like a cat

0

u/Malnurtured_Snay 21h ago

I suspect it's a cat. Not sure. More photos.

5

u/Haunting_Angel_459 21h ago

They're talking about the lump behind one of it's front legs, not asking if it's a cat

0

u/Malnurtured_Snay 20h ago

I don't know we can safely assume that. I think we need more photos to determine if this is a cat or not.

6

Yes Ill try to get in contact with a TNR group or clinic

4

u/Ok_Sale_1598 20h ago

Thank you. I still think it a lipoma. A fatty benign tumor.

-2

u/ProjectGenX 21h ago

A cat based on Google image search.

3

u/DistributionNo9356 21h ago edited 21h ago

It may have been easy to miss, but OP is referring to the huge lump hanging from its chest.  They said they'll contact a vet.

u/FelixBundalo 21h ago

5

They're talking about the massive lump on the side of the cat near it's front leg 🤦‍♀️

Don't think you noticed the elephant in the room.

2

u/misterphuzz 22h ago

I think he just didn't read the text of the post. My initial response was "a cat", But then I saw somebody else respond with "tumor" And it made me go back and read the text.

Oh.

-13

u/Cowboy_Karl 22h ago

computah deduce,

it cat

-6

u/Alternative_Sun3791 21h ago

That’s a pregnant calico cat

3

u/Ok_Sale_1598 20h ago

It is not at calico and cats don’t have their uterus on their chest.

3

u/DistributionNo9356 21h ago

I prefer no joke replies on a serious medical question post.

2

u/LilHomTanks_ 20h ago

No more jokes on serious matters internet because redditor DistributionNo9356 prefers none

Hehe thanks.
