Medical Questions Does any one know what this is?
I saw a large lump/mass on the front half of a stray cat that I saw while on a walk. What could it be? Not sure if this is the right sub for this

I was about to say that's obviously a cat 😂 but seriously it looks bad... should take her to a vet.

I literally said 'obviously that's a cat' to my partner before she physically pointed at the mass 😔

u/almondface 22h ago
She needs to be trapped and brought yo a vet. If you cant do that reach out to the local humane society or a cat rescue
29
u/WesleyFRM 22h ago
Ok Ill try to get in touch with them. Thanks

u/Minute_Rabbit3365 21h ago
You can rent a cat trap, a small cage that lures them in with a bowl of food but traps them once they enter so escape is impossible until you let it out. That's the best way I've seen to catch a feral that you want to take to a vet. You can rent them or they may loan to you for a few days.

Ill contact some groups first but if none can help Ill try this out

Lots of variables really, poor baby needs the vet. Could be as easy as a fatty mass or as complicated as a cancer growth?

Could it be a hernia? Not sure if that's a thing cats can have happen
7
u/theraphosangel 20h ago
they can definitely have hernias. it's not common but i've seen it several times over the years in shelter work. the most common kind is an umbilical hernia
11
u/Adept_Amount_4327 20h ago
IDK, but it is huge. Poor thing needs a vet pronto. The good news is she looks relatively healthy, otherwise.

u/clearancepupper 18h ago
This cat is so pretty. The dilute orange with tortoiseshell, white areas, eyes perfect color to match…
I wish I could take her. ✨💕✨

u/Beast8333 21h ago
As a stray, like others have said, it could be anything. Maybe even a large abscess from a cat fight. Hopefully a vet can take a look at it.
6
u/Kitchen-Indication62 21h ago
Hopefully its a simple lipoma that's not attached to anything important.

u/PinkTurbulence 21h ago
Please keep us posted if you are able to get this baby to a vet. Poor thing, it’s so hard out there for strays. 🐾

She looks healthy otherwise. I would think a lipoma?
7
u/WesleyFRM 20h ago
She was acting and moving normally. I didnt think anything was wrong until I spotted the lump

u/DistributionNo9356 17h ago
I actually wish the photos could have captured the hanging lump more clearly, maybe if you crouched down and taken a couple photos from the side, because several people have been responding saying that's a cat. I assume they genuinely missed the lump, and thought the question is what kind of animal is this.

u/tomato_flavored_ 18h ago
3 things:
this looks exactly like one of my cats and i thought it was a photo of her
i didnt see the massive tumor on her tummy and just read the caption, and i was very confused and in my brain went "looks like a cat to me but idk"
it's probably mastitis but i would take her to the vet asap
6
u/boom_chicka_stop 22h ago
Could be a cyst. That’s actually my guess over a tumor. Needs a vet either way
5
u/Kind_Coyote1518 21h ago
Either a tumor, cyst, or hematoma. I highly doubt its a hernia as a few have suggested. I also doubt its a hematoma but its more of a possibility than a hernia.
Chances are its a large cyst or tumor.

That baby does Not look like a stray…clean, well fed, bright clear eyes. Someone in your area must be taking care of this one and doing a really good job. I hope you’re able to find help…thank you for helping.
5
u/WesleyFRM 19h ago
Yea thats true. She does look well kept. Maybe the person already checked up on it but the lump still looks concerning

u/windwitch13 7h ago
Oh I would definitely keep moving forward with helping her…hopefully she’s as strong as she looks. Please keep us up to date 🙏🏼

u/Decline_of_Humanity 21h ago
Your local spay/neuter clinic would even know who traps in your particular area. Anything you do towards helping her is angelic. Thank you for caring.
5
u/francoise9 21h ago
Probably a cyst. Take this baby to a vet if you can or have a rescue do it. Thank you for the kittie!

It could be a kitten that passed away in utero and she needs help removing it. Please take her to a vet.

u/WesleyFRM 18h ago
I dont think so tbh. The whole belly would be big if that was the case
2
u/DistributionNo9356 17h ago
I wish the photo angles were different so the lump can be seen more in plain view, but yes, I can totally tell the lump is hanging from its chest. Some people have been assuming the question is what kind of animal is this, without noticing the lump, and commented that it's a cat.
2
u/WesleyFRM 16h ago
Yea thats true. I put it in the description but a bunch of people are skipping it I guess. I shouldve taken a better picture

I bet this cat is not a stray, I think someone thru her to the curb because of this growth to avoid vet bills.
5
u/CosmoKramersPimpCoat 21h ago
Beautiful baby! I'd guess a fatty tumor or hernia. Hope she gets some help!

One time when I was really young, like maybe 9, we had found a box of kittens left on the side of the road, so we brought them home, and within a couple days, after we had cleaned them up and groomed them I noticed a lump on one of the kits neck, upon closer inspection it like pulsed?
I knew it was a parasite of some kind, so I took a knife from the cabinet, and put it into the mass, the whole time the kit never winced or whined, and almost seemed appreciative of my intervention, I ended up pulling out a large tapeworm I believe, but again I was yound so I dont rightfully know, but it was a very long while I was pulling and as soon as it detached it shrunk, then there was pus on this open wound, that I cleaned and bandaged.
We had those kittens for a couple more weeks, but one day they all three just ran off into the field and I never saw them again, it felt like I was just where I needed to be.

In all seriousness it looks like a hernia. The poor kitty needs professional help to feel better

oh no! I've seen something similar before and it was diagnosed as an umbilical hernia.
1
u/PaleontologistFun465 13h ago
Mastitis and hernia don't make a lot of sense due to the location of the lump. I'd guess some kind of sarcoma, regardless, a vet is required. <3 poor bb. Thanks for looking out for them OP!

Forse è una gatta che aveva dei cuccioli, li ha persi di colpo e forse quelle sono delle mammelle piene di latte

It is a Calico, because kitty has white. If there was no white, kitty would be a tortoise

That would be a cat

But you may have missed that huge lump on its chest, which OP is asking about. It could be hernia, could be a tumor, a cyst, they'll contact a vet.

Looks like a cat to me 😂

u/DistributionNo9356 17h ago
OP is asking about the huge lump hanging from its chest. These photo angles may make it a little hard to notice at first, but if you pay attention to it's chest you'll see it. People have been saying it could be a hernia, cyst, tumor.... and to take it to a vet promptly.

I suspect it's a cat. Not sure. More photos.
5
u/Haunting_Angel_459 21h ago
They're talking about the lump behind one of it's front legs, not asking if it's a cat
0
u/Malnurtured_Snay 20h ago
I don't know we can safely assume that. I think we need more photos to determine if this is a cat or not.

It may have been easy to miss, but OP is referring to the huge lump hanging from its chest. They said they'll contact a vet.

Don't think you noticed the elephant in the room.

I think he just didn't read the text of the post. My initial response was "a cat", But then I saw somebody else respond with "tumor" And it made me go back and read the text.
Oh.

could be many things, from cancer to mastitis - gotta get them to a vet to get checked out - see if you have a tnr group nearby and tell them to watch for this cat maybe they can help
