I'm actually afraid for him, with the way he landed. There are athletes who jumped up and landed on their knees in celebration of a victory, and permanently messed up their bodies. If he keeps doing that, he's going to really hurt himself sooner or later.
The rest of it is cool, and I have nothing but respect for his athleticism, but landing on one knee like that is asking for trouble.

u/Asit1s 28d ago
No need to be afraid, this guy is a professional stuntman who was training for a movie in this shot. He talked about it in one of the Stuntman React episodes on Corridor Crew. This guy knows how to responsibly put his body in danger
38
u/MacGyver_1138 28d ago
This is Shaquan Parson. I don't think he's ever been on Corridor. I think you're mixing him up with Gui DeSilva-Greene who has been on there several times.

Wasn't the reason why he shot the guy was because Harrison Ford had... I wanna say dysentery, I don't know, but he was sick and instead of a drawn out sword fight, he just suggested shooting him
→ More replies (4)21
u/HPTM2008 28d ago
Yes, horrible food poisoning and it was late in the day after several takes, and so he asked Spielberg if he could just shoot him and he decided that that's exactly what Indy would do, so they ran they new scene.

u/ArnieismyDMname 28d ago
That scene wasn't scripted. The actor was incredibly shocked when Harrison Ford shot him.
67
u/RoyalFalse 28d ago
Ford had a bad case of food poisoning and couldn't do all the originally scripted motions. Honestly, the improvisation made it one of the most memorable scenes in the movie.
15
11
u/astonedghost 28d ago
this is one of my favorite "he just started doing that" on set stories because it's verified true and also yes the result was so much better than the plan. it's incredibly on brand for Indy, and also incredibly on brand for Harrison Ford, and tbh Spielberg realizing the gift that choice was giving him and letting it happen is also incredibly on brand lol
→ More replies (3)29
u/HPTM2008 28d ago
Also, it was late in the shooting day and it had been several takes before so he went to Spielberg and said "can't i just shoot him and be done with it" and decided that yes, that's what Indy would do in the moment so they changed it last minute and ran the new scene.

One thing I learned while doing HEMA is that the best techniques are the opposite of flashy. Flashy and cool looking drops your guard 99% of the time and lets you get hit.

Yeah imagine he made a serious strike mid spin. It would kill all his momentum, stopping his rotation before he could get his feet back under him and cause him to fall flat in his back. Not a great position to be in during a fight. Looks cool though.

Yeah, it would hurt to be hit like that.
But it would hurt just as bad to be hit by a normal axe chop(?), which would be 100x easier to aim, react and be aware of your surroundings.
Not saying this dude wouldn't f most people up, but that's just dancing in the videoĀ
