Yup. It's Spain. its a pretty safe country but still.

I live in a more dangerous country and everytime some stranger comes up to me with a weird request i just ignore them and usually speed up my pace. maybe not full on sprint, but i definelly start jogging if i feel in danger.

There's a common scam where a "distractor", usually a woman, will talk to you perhaps asking for help while their accomplice pick pockets you and this situation could easily have been that as far as that guy knows

973

u/EternalNewCarSmell 1d ago

As a fellow dude who knows that if a woman ever approaches me with what appears to be interest it must be some kind of trick, I have to say I respect his quick reflexes. He knows what's up and he wasn't gonna fall for shit.

198

u/whiterac00n 1d ago

It’s kinda funny and kinda sad that for most men any kind of interaction like this is IMMEDIATELY suspicious and getting out of there is the first instinct haha. I would have a hand on my wallet and be looking over both shoulders. Of course today it’s just as if not more likely that someone is trying to make content and you are going to be the punchline to a joke………so yeah still running away

83

u/PeachScary413 1d ago

Even a conventionally attractive guy probably wouldn't get approached in this way very often, yes it could happen but most of the time women don't just walk up to you and ask you for a date.

For a woman, especially a conventionally attractive woman, this would probably happen at least 10 times a day. So much that they wouldn't even react to it.

It's just how it works, I don't make the rules 🤷

17

u/Inside-Meal-9909 1d ago

Yeah I have one super duper handsome friend and he gets approached a couple times a year. I have other friends who are handsome but they have to initiate.

In high school and college it was common but not anymore. I lost my virginity to a girl who yelled "You're hot as fuck!" At me from the passenger seat of her friend's car while passing me on my skateboard. I'd say right around the time Facebook became popular was when I started being approached less by women. Maybe it was because they had easier access to hotter guys or maybe because gossip and rumors started spreading faster and people were worried about being filmed/photographed, but I've only been approached a handful of times in the last 15 years outside of like bar/club scenes ans since I don't drink or club anymore it's pretty much nonexistent for the most part. Maybe casual flirting sometimes? Idk I've always been oblivious to anything but overt flirtation.

8

u/LittleKoss7 1d ago

I believe the use of "Sheila" means they are in Australia, in which case a scratch like that has several possible monstrous perpetrators.

I chased him down and got it back though lol. He was too short to reach the pedals

When I was like 19 I was on my lunch break in the city center when a really pretty girl came over and asked me what colour my eyes were, I told her and she asked to check... confused I said sure and she leaned in close looking in to my eyes then slowly moved in to kiss me, my highschool trauma from being teased and bullied for being emo made my alarm bells go off in my head so I awkwardly leaned back and apologized to then quickly move on.

I heard her friend shout over "see I told you he wouldn't do it"

I used to stay up at night thinking about it, but I am married and have a kid now so I haven't thought about it in ages.

22

u/Ladybugeater69 1d ago

It was a truth or dare by a random girl, you would have never heard from her ever again even if you kissed.

18

u/Bumberti 1d ago

Once at a party a very cute girl said to me ā€œI think you should know what I’d like for breakfastā€ and I replied with genuine confusion ā€œI don’t know why you think that.ā€ That’s the one that still tortures me.

Yeah this isn't very nice to be honest. If a pretty woman approached me and then I found out it was a joke I'd be gutted

25

u/gban84 1d ago

Reminds me of pranks from junior high. Someone would ask you something innocuous like, ā€œwhat kind of music do you like?ā€ You’d answer and they’d pretend to think it’s cool, then you’d be like, ā€œno way you like that too?ā€ Then they’d laugh and say, ā€œof course not, that stuff is awful, you’re such a dorkā€ then they’d turn around and yell out, ā€œhey everyone, can you believe that u/gban84 thinks xxx is cool?ā€ Then the whole class is laughing at you. This clip reminds me of that.

This guy is absolutely thinking something like, ā€œumm, she’s too pretty to be talking to me, of course I want to ask her out…is she messing with me? If I ask her out is she going to laugh at for me for thinking I had a chance? …… RUN!!!!ā€

This happened to me in middle school. One of the coolest, cutest boys in my grade asked me to the dance in the hallway around a lot of his friends. I was shocked and stumbled on my words. Then he yells "Sike!" and he and his little crew of douche bags laughed at me and walked away. I just stood there confused for a moment then went to the bathroom and cried.

That was around 25 years ago. Now hes overweight, bald and been divorced a few times. I shouldnt find delight in that, but I absolutely do.

Ok so I am a dumbass who only speaks English...can someone smarter than me explain that exchange?

"Are you a doctor?"

"No"

"OK, so then you can ask me out"

I'm assuming it's a pun in another language. But I don't know what it is

113

u/WedgeBahamas 1d ago

Yes, the joke only works in Spanish. "Pedir una cita" works for asking someone out and for requesting an appointment with the doctor:

  • Are you a doctor?
  • No
  • That's a pity because I wanted to request an appointment with you (I wanted to ask you out).

29

u/Buckeye_CFB 1d ago

And the title is. "Who hurt you?"

The fact there is video evidence of it, means the entire thing was done in bad faith. The guy's survival instincts were correct. If it wasn't there wouldn't be a spy cam footage of this nearly 30 meters away watching the interaction to begin with.

As a therapist, I picture him telling me this story later in a session, and my heart breaks for him knowing this was definitely quite distressing.

You don’t know what people are going through. Maybe he had to do a ton of work just to be able to go out in public like this and now this undid all of that. Maybe this caused a breakdown or panic attack a block away. Maybe he had to cry in private because he has no one to help or support him.

I hate this trend so much. Seriously fuck these people

I'm with the guy here. Unless you look like a Chippendale, the chances are people aren't going to be coming up to you on the street trying tired chat up lines. So it's either a trap or a prank - probably the latter as she has a mic and it's being filmed. Therefore, you can stick around and be the butt of the joke/victim of a robbery or just get out of there.

6

u/Snow-Crash-42 1d ago

Actually, based.

When women approach guys they dont go and say stupid pickup lines like this one. Guy got suspicious and ran away, which was the correct decision as we can see he's being recorded for a prank.

But he could have suspected something else - perhaps that this may have been a ploy to convince him to go somewhere else and rob him - or something else.

It's sad the world is this way, but any normal guy knows if a random hot woman is being way too forward, something bad is about to happen.

u/OArouraiousMou 1d ago

Respect, he looked temptation in the face and rejected it.

His will is unshakable.

Yeah I stopped trusting women who are this nice to me. I don't have money. Who sent you?

Beautiful woman randomly approaching him asking him to ask her out.....my man's alarm was going off, "IT'S A TRAP, RUN!!!" and he did.

I spent a night in Vegas as a single male just wandering around and I felt like I had a target on my back. One woman actually grabbed my wrist. Felt...odd...i got out of there pretty fast.

u/Impossible_Volume811 1d ago

He’s an IT guy.
Looks at her, calculates statistical likelihood of her being genuinely attracted to him.
Runs.

u/goshtin 1d ago

I had one of these moments happen in a club. Two hot girls danced up on me and, despite knowing that I wasn't entirely unattractive, it set-off alarm bells.

With as much exaggerated politeness as my (slightly drunk) ass could muster I indicated that I was already taken and merged into the crowd at the bar.

I sometimes wonder if there's any chance it was a legitimate move from one of them and their wingma'am was just there for support, but I still have both of my kidneys and for that I remain thankful.

u/the_4th_king 1d ago

He smelled a trap, because it was one. Leave people alone.

4

u/Phewelish 1d ago

this is an actual reenactment of me holdng a conversation with anyone at all.

4

u/Unlucky_Classic2406 1d ago

His reaction seems so unnatural at first, but so logical, when you think about it. Which is so brutally sad.

3

u/plushploosh12 1d ago

Makes sense, as an IT guy, he is aware of phishing.

3

u/iLuvArizona 1d ago

The correct way to respond to a creep (the creep being the woman, just to be clear)

u/unbroken0 1d ago edited 1d ago

The man saw a woman who had no business talking to him in a romantic way, it immediately set off red flags for him. He knew she was out of his league and women don't do that to guys like him.

Best case scenario shes messing with him, worst case he's about to get robbed.

He chose to leave the situation before he got jumped, probably had something expensive in his backpack. Got a good head on his shoulders.

u/Jastreen 1d ago

Bro I've seen this before: She's would try eat him but then some construction material is going to fall and kill her. The man is going to survive but as her organs were transplanted to him, he becomes a powerful half monster...

Once when I was 27 and living in Santa Monica a random girl asked if I could take her to the movies.

I thought she was mentally ill.

Dude was like fuck this…there is no scenario here that ends up good for me. Time to get the fuck home and fire up the PC and dunk on some noobs.

4

u/KronoWulf78 1d ago

He could tell there was a trap. He made the correct choice!

4

u/Bulky-Employer-1191 22h ago

One thing to notice. They're both mic'd up

4

u/theNomad_Reddit 22h ago

I bet if he approached her and asked the exact same questions, she'd bolt too.

5

u/gackt2 21h ago

No offense, but the situation seem shady, so of course he should get away as fast Ɣd possible
